Yesterday I was using my S5N for a couple hours - plugged in - just surfing and playing games. When I went to move it off the table out of the way to do some other work, the screen went black and the power went off. I am unable to turn it on or get it to respond in any way. The amber charging light illuminates when the power cord is plugged in, but nothing else happens. It makes no sound when I push the power button. As far as I can tell it is completely dead.
I'm desperate for help. I NEED this computer to work for a trip I am going on soon and I only want to send it to ASUS as a last resort.
If you have any suggestions or know of anything that I should do to try to revive my computer, please let me know. I have no idea what happened to it. It has not been dropped or in any other way endangered. I have taken excellent care of it since purchasing it a couple months ago.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, try taking out the battery then plugging in the laptop and booting. If this doesn't work try holding the power button for 10 seconds and trying again.
Was the unit really hot right before it started to happen? (noticed you said you played some games) -
The computer gets hot really easily. I would say it was definitely hot, but not necessarily any hotter than it gets other times. I had actually stopped playing games and had been surfing for maybe an hour before this happened. But maybe it did get too hot? What would that mean exactly?
I will try your suggestions. THank you.
Another thing that I thought of is that the computer was open with the LCD up and I picked it up by the bottom right corner (where the HDD is) to move it. It's a very light computer and I have always been able to easily move it around by just picking it up in one hand. However at this time I had the larger, heavier battery in. This is a horrible thought, but maybe something about the added weight caused too much strain on that bottom right corner and broke something inside? It went off as soon as I picked it up. It seems like if this is the cause of the problem, this computer is far more cheaply and crappily made than I thought and that's going to really bum me out...
It always felt solid...
My husband said he thinks it is unlikely this is the cause because even if the HDD was accidentally disconnected or something, the computer would still boot to BIOS. Is that true? -
Ok I took the battery out and plugged it in and it booted fine. So what does this mean?
When it first happened I took out the extended battery and put in the stock battery and it wouldn't boot with that one either.
I was so happy when it started but I'm still very worried. I love my computer and just want it to be ok! -
Haha...aww! You sound like a worrying mother, Sencha.
Anyway, this doesn't mean anything in particular...sometimes computer electronics just do weird things. That's why we troubleshoot
I've heard of another person having a similar problem to yours...and the way to fix it was to remove/reinsert the battery. I guess that's a common way to fix ASUS notebooks when they act dumb
At least it works now, right?
If it persists, I think this would qualify as something you could contact ASUS warranty over... -
Yes, I worried about this all night and felt SO depressed when I got up this morning. I'm glad it's working now (with the battery in again) and even though it's a very weird problem, at least I know it's ok now. I'm glad I came here to ask!
I was feeling all sad because I'd been going around telling everyone how much I love my little S5n baby and how great ASUS is, etc, and then this happened and I couldn't believe it. Especially as the same day my USB microdrive decided to break as well. Maybe it's my magnetism. -
Its really nothing to worry about i've seen it happen to all laptops. IBM, Compaq, HP etc... It's just something that goes wonky sometimes. The battery thing is just something thats good to know, and now you know, and knowing is half the battle.
Glad to see everything worked out ok though.
