Hi, what dimension of RAM should i get to upgrade the s5a or Z33a(m5a) laptop? Is it micro-dimm, or SO-dimm? is it 200 pin or 172 pin? I don't really know the difference... If someone would explain to me, that would be great! Thanks a lot!

    s5n or m5n!??

its micro-dimm, the micro is smaller than the so-dimm, really its just a size/price difference.

Its a micro-so-dimm. Its not even out for resale from what i see. We are kind of forced to order them from asus only. Give it about a week and prices will fall!

It's physically smaller, and a Micro-DIMM is 172 pin instead of the 200 pin SO-DOMM.

Haven't seen any DDR2 Micro-DIMMs around either, and it doen't appear on any manufacturers websites as far as I can see. A 512MB DDR-333 PC2700 Micro-DIMM is about $130, so the $160-$200 the Asus resellers charge for the DDR2-400 isn't too outrageous.

Thats right... the S5a and Z33a (M5a) are the only two notebooks being produced in the world yet with ddr2 microdimms..... so Asus basically ordered the ram from the company who designed it.... it's going to be a while before it's even available to the public and probably 6 months before you can find it from a couple memory makers........ In comparison, the ddr microdimms in the S5n/M5n took about 6-7 months before kingston started to make them after those units were replaced........ Other notebooks have to start being designed with that ram for other memory companies to find it worth producing.

    Thanks,

Infineon seems to be making them. Probably the only manufacturer at this time. And I was wrong about the pincount. DDR and DDR2 So-DIMMs are similar physically, but apparently DDR2 Micro-DIMMs have 214 pins instead of 177.

They are.... but it's not a public product yet. As far as I know they were made for Asus and aren't even mass produced yet....

    Thanks,

Wintef has both of them. I hear they hand delivered some samples to asus their close neighbor. Pretty sure we will be able to get these soon at the cost of non micro dimms.

Doubt that... micro dimms (ddr333) are still expensive... you pay 1gb so dimm price for 512mb microdimms........

It's not a big deal, but they are 1/2 the size......

    Thanks,
