I started having monitor problems today with my 3 year old S96J. The screen is now shutting off on its own very quickly, but can be brought back on by shutting the lid and opening it back up. Doing a bit of reading (with a spare monitor of course) I figured that the problem was the FL inverter...but now I'm thinking it could be a backlight problem for two reasons:

    1) I've been noticing a slight pink tint on the screen, and I can see that it's really bad now side by side with another monitor.
    2) I found out that if I turn the brightness down to about 50% or less, the screen stays on. It has been on for about 10 minutes straight now...much better than the <5 seconds I get with the brightness all the way up.

Anything here that can point to one problem or another? I'm praying it's just an FL inverter problem, because replacing a backlight sounds like something that is beyond my skill level and expensive to get done professionally, and if that's the case, I might just consider buying a new laptop.

Aaaaaaaand there goes the backlight. Screen to black, can't get it to come back on, but I can faintly see when looking very closely.
