So far the S96J has proven to be the worst laptop I've ever owned... battery failure, screen scratched when cleaning it with a microcloth... ram having issues with the motherboard no matter what brands I've tried..

But now now the screen actually got DAMAGED and burned by Windex when I was cleaning it.

I was wondering, what kind of a screen can I buy to replace it? I found a few sellers on EBAY which sell LCD screens, they have many versions.

I'd prefer to replace it with another screen, not the standard one since it's a piece of shiet.

that is unfortunate. s96s is turned out to be a very reliable laptop for us despite its outward cheaply made appearance. screen replacement is 400$ includes service. you can attempt it your self with any wxga lcd you can find on ebay. guessing your vendor did not offer service?

Most people could tell you that Windex + Computer Screen = Disaster. I would recommend having it done, unless you have a lot of laptop repair experience, its just not worth ruining the screen or buying one that won't work.

Any 15.4" LCD from eBay should work. Just be sure to do your research beforehand to make sure it'll actually physically fit (ask the seller for the dimensions and pictures of the connectors).

Otherwise, the s96j is really easy to take apart compared to other notebooks.

And for the record, it's a really bad idea to use Windex to clean your LCD. Try eye glasses cleaning solution or a mixture of DI water and rubbing alcohol.

Hello-I am looking for a good link to download manuals on the S96J. The ASUS
site does not give any options for this model. Is it a Z series now? I got a bad
screen and would like to replace the screen and while I am at it replace the
LCD interface cable. I have a constant green bar on the right hand side of
the LCD screen. When I press on the screen or change the angle of the screen
the colors change from green to red to blue. I attached a VGA monitor and it works fine so I am assuming it's in the screen or cable but I can't find any part numbers. HELP!! Thanks JJ

    Maybe this? http://estore.asus.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=3212

But first, I'd try getting a replacement coax cable from mainboard to LCD. If the colors change then it's almost certainly its fault. It might also be that the green bar is not the fault of the LCD, but of the cable. You save more than 300USD if that is the case :) since the cable is very cheap part.

I couldn't find the cable... call asus support perhaps to find its part # and whether they can ship it to you.
