So. I got mine in earlyish June, and it worked fine for a while and all that. The lowest temp I saw it at was 39C, the highest 55C, and it usually hovered around the mid-high 40's when I was doing non-gaming related things (ie lotsa multitasking but no games). Then towards the end of June, it completly died, wouldn't turn on, etc. So I sent it back for repairs, and according to the tech guy I questioned, the factory replaced the "shell" (I take that to be the chassis). The insides are the same, to mhy knowledge, and I certainly still have my data. So I've been enjoying having my laptop back, but I've noted something interesting.
Since getting it back, it's been noticibly cooler. According to the HD Tune temp thing, the highest it's been is 48C, and it usually hovers around the low-mid 40's when I'm multitasking etc, low thirties if I'm not doing much at all. This morning when I turned it on (it'd been on standby overnight in a fairly cool room) it was 26C. So that's the lowest I've seen in. Haven't been doing anything different in terms of where I use it, etc, this time around.
So....I found it weird. Not complaining of course, but it's interesting. Anyone know why? And fellow S96J owners: what are your temps, generally? with or without artic 5?

I thought that HD-Tune only had the temp of the hard drive. I would be very surprised if your CPU never got hotter than 48c. NHC is about the most reliable program for reading temps in the S96j that I have found. Even Everest Home was not updating temps.

Yea, i find it hard to believe you can get CPU temps like that. My cpu temps hover around 50C, HDD in the low 40s according to NHC with Arctic Silver 5.
When i play games or do something intensive, my HDD temp will max out at high 40s. -
well, I was only measuring with HD Tune either way so the hard drive temp, at least, is lower. I'll check out the CPU measurer thing, though since I never measured it before I cant compare

That is very weird that you were getting 55C with your hard drive before. I have never got that hot with mine and I believe we have the same hard drive. Mine is in the mid 40s when doing HD intensive stuff. Did they tell you what was wrong with your notebook before?
S96J Temp....weird but nice
