I just bought a nifty expresscard/54 - compactflash adapter for my laptop. It works fine, except that when I transfer files is seems awfully slow. Then, a window pops up near the taskbar telling me to plug the reader into a USB 2.0 port! How would I do this? I'm kind of afraid to completely disassemble the notebook, but I have made basic upgrades to RAM and the hard drive... I'll try if I know what I'm doing.

I'm still having issues with this.
Recent email to SIIG tech support tells me to install usb 2.0 drivers, but I don't exactly know how to accomplish this. Any advice is appreciated. -
Indeed it seems that the drivers are old (USB version 1 rather than 2). It might also be the hardware is limited to USB 1.0 but I seriously doubt it. There should be no need to open up the notebook.
I really have no experience with Express slot devices, but I think the drivers for the express CF adapter itself might need to be updated. Refer to the CD supplied with the device (if you didn't do that already) or the manufacturer's website. Perhaps you could also try to just remove the drivers and reinstall. -
Thanks for responding. There was no installation CD, and the manual obtained online says that installation is automatic w/XP. I cannot get another driver from SIIG. I will try the uninstall/reinstall procedure later and see if this has any success.
