Anyone notice the bottom of their S96J screens get warm (right above the two silver connecters) after a little while? I checked to make sure it is not the fan in the back heating it up (as the side of the LCD opposite the fan heats up as well). What could be causing it, and since I've never had an LCD heat up before...is this a cause for concern?

uhhh... i doubt its the LCD itself thats overheating... but if it is, thats usually a cause for concern, as something is gonna heat up to the point of critical temp and may cause problems... most likely its a component thats heating up that area of the lcd... are you sure its not your battery? i'd check up on that and hopefully it hasn't exploded on you...

If it isn't hot I doubt it is a problem. I have never had the screen of a laptop really warm up, and if it did it was due to warm parts nearby. The bottom of the screen of my V6j is warmer than the top of the screen, but nothing to cause concern. Do some checks to see what is warming up, and if it trully is the screen, how warm is it getting?

Mine does that as well, at least my original unit. I RMA'd it because of screen flickering and the replacement hasn't shown it but I've only checked it once. I have a Built on ASUS logo and that area would get especially warm, as hot as the touchpad every got - which is pretty hot.

Does your screen flicker after a few seconds on some of the lower brightness settings as well? (like 1-6 settings from the bottom) ?

It is the bottom of the LCD panel that is heating up. I'm on AC and the battery is at full charge and ice cold right now. There is a spot centered on the bottom middle part of the LCD panel (front and back) that seems to be radiating out heat. Compared to the cold parts of the LCD I'd say it is around 10 to 15 degrees Fahrenheit warmer. I suspect it may be a power adaptor of some sort for the LCD, although I've never opened an LCD case up before. Can anyone confirm/deny this on their S96J's?

Nope, fine on all brightness levels. My LCD works great (even more so now with new BIOS) and I just noticed the warm screen.

If its still operating fine and isnt overheating I dont see any cause for concern.

Graininess is gone; you'll have a hard time trying to find it.

The reason that the bottom of the display casing gets warm is because there is a power inverter for the LCD there. Well, I can't be certain of this, but that is where the lcd power inverter for every laptop I've ever opened up was. Haven't opened up the Z96j yet because it's mine and I don't feel like voiding my 3 year warranty. I'm sure the power inverter is there, thought. Nothing to worry about at all. Unless your inverter is faulty and is running abnormally hot, and your plastic starts to melt. But it shouldn't get much if at all hotter than the touchpad.

You're right, it's about the same temperature as the touchpad, maybe a little warmer.

The lcd transformer is on the bottom of the screen. That is what is causing the warmness

Aye. If you don't believe us, turn the screen brightness either down or off, and the temp will drop significantly in about 5-10 minutes.

Nice. Tell whoever took those pictures to clean their screen, and to keep their laptop somewhere where their two year old can't reach. :) Just kidding. But seriously, that screen needs to be cleaned. And those finger prints shouldn't be there.

Thanks for the pics. No different from any other laptop. If you turn off the backlight(turn brightness all the way down) the inverter will cool off to room temperature in a few minutes.

Nice. Why does the LCD power supply need to be inverted (AC-->DC)?

The box between your laptop and wall outlet converts AC to DC. My guess is that the inverter changes the voltage to match the lcd specs.
