Perhaps uninstalling the ide drivers will help. Windows will re-install them when re-booted.

I called powernotebooks.com technical support and all is good. Had some minor issue that was solved with a couple of clicks.

Try to put a music cd in and play it without bootup a Windows.
Just wonder whether the couple of clicks from motors when running, it make the cd not be read properly.
    Cheers

    Hi

A little more details on what was done:

They told me to leave a CD in the laptop and shut it down. Then turn it back on with CD still it is.

I did this and from that time on it recognized the drive all the time - whether you put the CD in while laptop is on or when it boots up.

Will update you guys on any further issues with that

    V.

Seems to be not normal. Suppose we don't need to do this way becasue an optical drive can recognize a cd whenever is put in without shuting down or turning on.
    Cheers
