    I bought a "S96J" , with the text "MODEL:Z96J" on serial label,
and the call center told me USE "Z96Js" BIOS to upgrade.
So bewilderment..... What is ASUS doing?

About Merom.... I tested the T7400 with BIOS 0601, it's working fine on my
S96J. But something confused me: The CPU error message shows in booting,
and I need to press F2 into BIOS menu, exit, then I can boot into my OS.
(Show me "Press F1 to resume" is snow job)

I ran the 3DMK05 successfully and got 3900+ score, the S96J
absolute support Merom, just wait an new BIOS to release.

But what is ASUS waiting for? I am impatience.

9999, well, good to hear that you are able to boot into your OS, despite of the error message. We are all waiting for the fully Merom supported BIOS release from ASUS. Hopefully, they will have it before the actual launch of Merom. Good job though!

Z96j and S96j are practically the same, that's why they say to use Z96j's files. Oh and goodies with getting merom up and running!

The only difference between S and Z is the screen, right?
    Thanks.

Just curious... how much did that CPU cost you? :) (Is Merom already officially released yet?)

Merom has not been officially released yet. The ones currently in circulation are engineering samples.

it's kinda silly to expect them to have a bios ready for the merom considering that they haven't even been released. and even after then, it will be awhile before it is actually in stock with most resellers and then put into notebooks.

Ya, it is an ES version. The super pi 1M is finished at 24 seconds.

And, if ASUS make S96J support Merom officially, BIOS should be released.

Super Pi 1M at 24 seconds.. Wow that's the expected performance we've been awaited.. Sorry to be a pest but can you also run 2Mil just to compare with most laptops?

You should get about 50-52seconds compared to a T2600 which is about 70 seconds..
So we're looking at a bit over 30% gain clock to clock... This is great news.

    Oops, It's used 60 sec.

I think maybe the pi 2M is still over 4M L2 cache which can handle easily.

(The opposite, pi 512K take only 10 seconds.)

Ken at GentechPC contacted Intel which said that once meron is released a BIOS update will be released to support it.
