okay today all of a sudden, my computer is getting slow on everything, it takes longer to load a program...and most of all when I try to restart on two attempts it freezes up (on the blue vista scree saying loging off constantly but doesn't actually restart), meaning I have to manually hold the power button which isn't good for the computer itself right?

    anyone mght know why?

It could be anything, you certainly need to give more information. There can be a gazzilion reasons why your machine would behave as such.

my computer has a T7500 CPU and 2 gb ram.....and it just started happening today....if it helps, I installed an internal wireless network card....but I don't see any reason why that would slow down the computer

Well, maybe the driver is messing up with something. If windows XP looking in event viewer might give you some more information. If Vista, I've no idea. If linux you might want to ask in the Linux forum.

O wow, Windows Update didn't finish updating, I would just try and redo Windows update and go from there.

Uninstall the updates in add/remove programs and see what happens. also, disable that network card and see if that makes a difference (don't do both at once)...

Could you have done anything at all to make it slow down? Did your installing the Network card corrispond with it? Some new software you installed? Have you checked your MScomfig to check nothing huge is running on boot up?

I did actually get a similar problem a while back for no real reason, a full re-install of windows fixed it nice. If all else fails that might be an option.

Sometimes windows update need to restart and continue with the update process, that's why I suspect windows update didn't finish updating. It sets up the files it needs to run after the restart, so maybe that's why it was taking so long to shutdown and restart.

Ofcourse it might also be some of the update messes up your system. I would trouble shoot one by one, beginning with uninstall the update if possible, and redo the update.

Are you running good anti-malware programs? You could have a virus or some other baddie.
