    Hello,

Thinking of getting an ASUS Z70v refreshed and was wondering if anyone knows of any slot loading optical drives that will fit.

ALL 12.7mm notebook optical drives fit. Getting the side and clip rails and faceplates to work are another story.... if you want to get into serious modding, you could pick anything up and try it.

I've recently replaced the dvd drive in my old Dell. The only part I found difficult was getting the faceplate off of the original drive. Maybe there's a trick to it, but it takes a bit of force to get the faceplate to snap off of one of the clips, and I was worried about breaking it (but did it only with some scratches). Also, I believe you need to make sure that the eject hole and the eject button are in the same place as the original for the faceplate to fit.

... right, but every brand has it's own faceplate design (attachment points, eject button, eject hole)....... Add that with the fact they want to do a slot load...... they're going to have to be really good with a dremel or something to make it look like an OEM job........ not to mention they'll need to have bought one of the drives that comes with the unit to get the parts they need.......
