i know this may sound like i'm stupid...

but when i use my ASUS w5 and hook up to a sound system, (subwoofer and 2 speakers..) sound is really good...like it has a base

but when it plays from speakers on the laptop, it's more crispy and less clear and no bass

    a way to alter this?

I don't think there's really any way to fix this. The real root of the problem is that the speakers on your laptop are very small and not really designed for strong base output the way a dedicated set of speakers with a sub woofer is. You could use various graphic equaliser programs to increase the amount of base being output to the speakers but I suspect your sound will just sound muddy and will make the speakers buzz at higher volumes.

Depending on your headphones they should sound much better than the laptop speakers. Assuming other problems don't come into the equation, see any of the threads on the W2V sound issues.....

Because they're right up against your ear and the sound is sealed in by the design of the headphones. I'm not saying that if you had them sitting on your desk beside the laptop they'd sound better.... :)

Also like I said before it depends on the quality of your headphones. I think the speakers in laptops are generally pretty poor quality.
