    I just purchased a U30jc and I am wanting to see if there are any ssd's that perform better with this model. There are so many to pick from.

    Thanks for all your help.

    @coop94

    What size are you looking for?
    I'd personally go with the Intel X series. I've heard that they're quite reliable, moreso than their sandforce counterparts. Take a look around on the forum. I'm sure there's already a thread discussing SSD's

    I was looking at the intel x25 160gb. Just didn't know if others have tried different ssd's with good results.

    When shopping for a SSD, make sure it's at least a second generation model that supports TRIM. Also check that the SSD is NOT using a Jmicron controller chip as that has caused many performance issues for many users.

    In general, Intel X series SSDs are solid, fast and reliable - they tend to be a bit more expensive too. Personally, went for a 256GB G.Skill Falcon SSD which performs extremely well, albeit a bit slower than the Intel SSDs, but provides more capacity (the maximum 160GB that Intel offers) and is cheaper when compared per GB.

    Just a quick question;

    Does a SSD cut down the weight of this laptop? A SSD is about 77 gramms and I guesse an ODD is way heavier, right?

    How about battery life? decrease or increase?

    Lighter and the battery life increases. More efficient and does not require physical movement.

    So YES and INCREASE.

    Regular hard drives are around 110 grams, so the difference is about an ounce. You will not notice a difference of one ounce out of the 4lbs 8 ounces.

    As far as power, they are both really pretty close in usage, for example:

    WD Scorpio Black 500 GB SATA Hard Drives ( WD5000BEKT )

    and

    WD SiliconEdge Blue 256 GB SATA Solid State Drives ( SSC-D0256SC-2100 )

    Take a look, it is surprising.

    So how much does it weigh without the optical drive and with a SSD?

    Can't find anything about the weight of the optical.

    That U30JC looks very interesting. Still, the U35JC looks great too. But that wont be able to fit an SSD + HD. I"m just worried about the weight.... What would you recommend?

    U30 weights in at 4.8 lbs

    U35 weights in at 3.7 lbs

    An SSD will take .1 off either laptop.

    Personally I would rather have the optical drive, otherwise you would need to buy an external one, which will weight more than 1 lbs.

    That's just me, you need to decide on your own what's important.
