I thought I had it licked, but no- I can't boot to the drive I installed yesterday.
Here is the precis-
1) Purchased OCZ Agility 60GB SSD. Tried to install it.
2) A Windows 7 boot (from any of the following- Asus recovery disk, Windows created repair disk, Windows 7 OEM repair disk or Windows OEM Install disk) can not see Disk 0 (but it shows up in the BIOS and under DISKPART).
3) I tried to restore a System Image I had saved to my USB backup drive. Kept getting the following message "The system image restore failed. No disk that can be used for recovering the system disk can be found." When I click on details a get a bunch of gobbledy-gook about 1) System disk may have been excluded by mistake 2) USB disk may have been assigned as a system disk, 3) An invalid disk may have been assigned as system disk and an error code (0x80042412). I presume the problem is #3.
4) I was able to use Acronis True Image yesterday to clone my Maxtor drive to the SSD. Installed the SSD and it seemed to be a good boot drive. Rebooted a number of times. Was quite impressed with the boot times and program load speed.
5) This morning I discover that there is no boot device installed.
6) Using the Acronis boot disk was able to restore system image from yesterday. Still could not boot from HD.
7) Booting from my Repair disk I find that assigned drive letters were:
c: Western Digital MyBook plugged into USB
d: CD/DVD
DISKPART shows Disk 0 as 59 GB drive (the OCZ), Disk 1 as 497 GB drive (the WD MyBook)
So now I have pulled the OCZ and replaced it with the original Maxtor 320GB. It still works just fine.
Here is what I think (I just don't know what I can do about it). For some reason the OCZ SSD is not recognized by the Windows session when I boot from a CD, and will not boot from the drive itself, despite showing up under the BIOS.
I have not had these kinds of problems installing a new piece of hardware in 20 years of working with PCs.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
