I've owned my Z96Js for over a year now and its been perfect. Except for one thing, the hard drive. I can clearly hear it whir and click when it seeks and it has started to get on my nerves a bit. I don't keep a lot of data on it, just a couple videos, some music and the rest documents for school.

My question is if it's possible to put a SSD drive in my Z96Js? I've been searching around but came up with nothing so far :( .

    Thanks.

If I recall, SSD's have a typical SATA connection so it should not be a problem.

Awesome, that's great to hear. I'm pretty sure my hard drives dying anyways, my systems been hicupping for no reason at all lately.

And instead of starting another topic, I'll ask it here. Does the Z96Js support Santa Rosa chips? Or just Yonah and Merom?

Nope, Santa Rosa uses Socket P, the previous Merom/Yonah Core 2 Duos uses Socket M.

Right now SSD SATA drives are selling for $500 for a 16GB, $2800 for a 32GB. We will need to wait awhile methinks. :(

yeah seen the 32gb for 500$ still too much tho unless your a ritch business man that doesnt need alot of storage and the reduced heat/power consumption and faster speeds appeal to you enough to get one.

For a notebook with only 1 drive tho like the c90 I cant even imagine one as a primary device untill they hit atleat the 64gb mark and are cheap. With dual drives like some 17" have tho I would give it more thought.

My bad, serves me right for believing google's list alone.

Still too much for any of us. Can't wait for the speed boost it will have though...

That SSD is focused on size not performance since its a usb interface.

to really take advantage of the type of SSD I would want, as an external it would need to use e-sata, or at the very least firewire 800.

Ya I know that speed isn't what they are worried about but it IS a 56gb SSD for ~750. :D
