hey all!
before a year and a half i bought ASUS-K52F with Intel® Core i3 350M, 3GB Ram, and a 300 HDD.
well, everything is fine.. but im really diving into cubase, and it always stuck me with the 3GB, i cant do .
so ive got myself nice pair of 4GB x2 (8GB) and thats better.
but because i want to really boost this computer up to another level, i want to but both SSHD & SSD.
now my questions are:
right now i have 2.5" SATA 300GB 5400RPM and its sucks.
i saw some SSHD on ebay, but i dont know if i can use them with my computer.
i know also in order to use another HDD i need a caddy adapter, which i dont know what to buy.
any way, this is what ive found:
SSHD:
Seagate New momentus XT 750GB HDD 2.5 SSHD for Notebook Sata3 7200rpm 32MB
Seagate Momentus XT ST750LX003 750GB 7200RPM 2.5" Hybrid Hard Drive
Seagate Bulk ST1000LM014SP 1TB 2.5 SATA 64 MB SSHD ST1000LM014 (i couldnt find what the RPM of this hd...do you know?)
SSD:
SAMSUNG 840 Series 250GB 512MB Cache 2.5" 7mm Slim TRIM SATA3III MZ-7TD250BW SSD
Caddy Adapter:
2nd Hard Drive SATA HDD Caddy Adapter For ASUS K42 K52 K52F K62 K72 BBR9 K52JT
im aiming only for 7200RMP, not 5400.
will something fit?
thanks alot.

Hey dudi,
The drives aren't really proprietary when it comes to system compatibility. As long as it's a 2.5" laptop drive, it should work! The only thing you will need to take note of is that 2.5" drives can be either 12.7 mm or 9.5 mm. The 9.5 mm will fit, but if you find a drive that is 12.7 mm, make sure your bay can accommodate it! -
I bought the Momentus XT 500GB and a caddy in December for my K53E. I made the Momentus XT my OS drive and reformatted my old 500GB Seagate and put it in the caddy. It has worked flawlessly for 6 months. I would go with a hybrid drive. You get the extra space and still speeds that are surprisingly close to SSD (boot speeds at least).

If you're going for a moments, I'd go for the 750 GB, it has a bigger cache. Also to add to what prostar said, there are also drives that are 7 mm thick, some thinner notebooks will only take 7 mm drives, but fortunately, that isn't the case for you. If you don't need the capacity, go for a real SSD, it's much faster overall than a hybrid drive.

Seagate Bulk ST1000LM014SP 1TB 2.5 SATA 64 MB SSHD is only 5400RPM 90% sure since Seagate is moving away from 7200RPM laptop drives. For less performance variation stick with the 2nd generation 750GB Momentus XT SSHD which is 7200RPM. For more peak performance (SSD-side performance) but more performance variation (slower mechanicals), get the 1TB SSHD. Also Toshiba is making SSHDs.
Yeah if capacity/price isn't a concern, get a full SSD. Often there are good deals on Ebay
SSHD & SSD question.
