I'd like to salvage the data from a W3J hard drive. I have an enclosure with a 40-pin IDE cable, but the ASUS W3J cable doesn't quite fit. I bought a 2.5" to 3.5" IDE adapter since I thought it would do the trick, but the 2.5" end was way too small.
I'm pretty confused now about what kind of adapter I really need, so I thought I'd ask here before wasting anymore money!
Here's the HD specs:

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
ATA-100 ribbon cable connects to the drive. I can't explain why your cable doesn't fit - make sure you're attaching it the right way?
Best thing to do may be to just purchase an inexpensive ATA 2.5" external USB enclosure, and insert the drive into that to get the data off. Place for this would be Newegg (site search is linked) - if you're in salvage mode, the $10 is money well spent. -
I figured out why the adapter didn't work -- the company (geeks.com) sent me an IDE2SATA cable instead! How annoying.
Thanks for the reply! I don't think a USB drive is totally necessary since I have an enclosure I can use. I'll see if my college helpdesk has any adapter cables.
