ok, so i watched some game trialer through the steam client, after the movie clip was over (turned off of full screen) my display was immidiatly dimmer...plugged in, it dropped to battery-power-brightness, and when i unplug it, its almost too dark to see! i've tried restarting, but the display is dimmed all the way through startup even before windows boots. i dont have the slightest idea how to fix this, and really hope it isnt a harware thing. any ideas?

its a brand new s96j, less than 2 months old...

interesting. the Fn+F[4-5] keys are responsible, which surprizes me because the Fn-F[6-7] dont work at all (those are supposed to be for volume adjustment. when using those, a window should pop up in the corner showing you birghtness/volume adjustment...no such dialouge box appears, nor does the FN+... volume control function work. where do i adress this?

reinstall the atk driver. did you install new intel wireless drivers before this. Your H control doesnt seem to be working.

this sounds like a hardware problem to me. Sometimes with LCDs, when you get vastly brighter/dimmer it needs to be sent in to be fixed. Id give asus a call.

well if you have another monitor attach it to the computer if it is bright then it is likely the hardware on the laptop if it is dark like the notebook screen then it is likely a software issue

    fn+f5 = bright down
    fn+f6 = bright up
    fn+ f10/f11/f12 are volume controls
atk driver is responisble for the functionality of these function buttons. There are a variety of soft issue that can make this driver malfunction
