Anyone else having this problem? i think it might be time to complain to ASUS, and get the new G72. This is rediculous. the thing is less then four months old.

If you register your notebook within 30 days of purchase, you can get Accidental coverage, but what pisses me off is that THEY DIDN'T ADVERTISE THIS. this was not known to me, and therefore i missed out.

This should be illegal. They didn't tell a purchaser of their notebook that there was possible accidental coverage. What can i do about both of these problems?

But yeah. Anyone else having this problem?

There was actually a little blurb about it in your box, on the warranty card. and its 60 days. Not 30.

i find it very unfair that it is not made clear. they have to put it on a tiny warranty card, that i don't even think i got.

You bought your laptop from bestbuy. Bestbuy does not get this coverage.

best buy would not allow me to exchange my g71 for a g72 which i dont like as much 3 months after the fact. on the basis that "this thing happens sometimes, here i'll show you!" *screen flicker doesnt happen*

that's bull. How can you offer accidental coverage to only some laptops?

anyways, I wonder how long it will take to repair this problem. I can't afford to back up my stuff again.... IS ther a way to just exchange it for the g72?

I had the exact problem, solved by using the Recovery Partition on the HDD. I think what was causing it was the refresh rate not be at the right rate. I tried a few different drivers, and every time I tried to put it 60hz(it was defaulting to 59hz) it would just revert back.

All this was in Windows 7, I also ran into a lot of other random problems which I dont want to go into detail. I really rather have W7, but with all the problems I've had so far, may have to stick with Vista 64bit.

(also hi everyone, long time reader basically first time poster. Just got my refurb G71GX-RX04 from buy.com for $920 2 days ago.)

i had a place called Red Barn Computers put one in.. they are a reseller/repair facility, so it shouldn't void the warranty, right?

anyways, they just put a screen in thinking it would fix the problem, and it didn't... i think its the same one

Ok, so they replaced the MEMORY which doesn't make any sense at all. what would the memory have to do with the screen flickering?

ok, after the screen replacement, and ram replacement, i am still having some intermitant flickering. Any ideas on what i should do, other than sending it back AGAIN? I need this damned thing for school. And this time, a response would be nice?

could it be a possible over-volting issue?

Did they replace the entire screen (from hinges up) or just the LCD?

If only the LCD this can be due (and is probably due) to the inverter malfunctioning. A 20-dollars part on ASUS eStore.

If they did replace the whole thing, then it's probably because of the GPU. Do you get the flicker on an external screen via VGA/HDMI, too?

i'm not sure, it doesn't happen often enough for me to tell., i'd have to use it for hours via a tv, and my screen is only 6 feet long. They replaced just the LCD. how do i replace the inverter? and what's the link to the inverter? i can't find anything in that store. plus., the screen flickers WHITE

Ok, I had the same problem white horizontal lines that would flicker and cause my screen to shake up and down. However I noticed that if i pushed the screen far enough back it would stop. In fact if I kept it pushed back far enough it would not flicker at all. So I assumed it was a connection problem. I looked up where it might be the problem and I think i have found the solution. If you pop both of the covers on the hinge(If you push them forward and then pull them up they should come off. You may need to use a regular screwdriver to pry it off.) you should see two connections one on each side. Just pull them out, blow in them, and put them back in wiggling them and making sure they have a good connection. That should fix the problem. At least it did for me(So far). It may work itself loose again so I'll have to see. I will post again if this problem presents itself again.
