I was just wondering if anyone has been having issues with screen flickering at lower brightnesses on their Built on ASUS units. I have a brand, spanking new Z96JS that when I put the brightness anything less than maximum gets an ever-so-slight flickering.![]()
To elaborate on the problem, it's a bit like when one of those fluorescent lamps is about to go bad, but not anywhere near as evident. It's something akin to having a lower refresh on an old style CRT where some people would find the display would hurt their eyes unless they had it higher. Trouble is, a) you can't change refresh on an LCD, and b) it's clearly a backlight issue.
When I asked a few friends to look, I noticed that my gamer friends who tend to play FPS and action style games noticed it while most other people did not. I also found that it's more evident at lower brightnesses. Happens both on AC and battery.
BUT, when I look at my old Z63A, it doesn't have this issue, even at the lowest brightness.
Upon looking through some old threads, I found the random thread where someone mentioned it, but nothing seemed to come out of it. So I'm wondering, has anyone else come across this?

i've had that happen to my desktop lcd..could be a power issue..sometimes it went away though

I remember that when my sister got her lcd monitor for her desktop the screen flickered, after a while it went away. My guess it's because the screen has not been on and/or in the same position for a while and the screen has to "normalise" or "set" (fluorescent lights also have this).
If I were you I would wait a while, maybe two weeks (depends on how often you have the screen on), if it's still there after that time I would contact Asus and see what they have to say. -
I'll let it sit for a while. The unit hasn't seen many power-on hours yet, but I plan on using it to replace my desktop completely since I'm so rarely ever home. Thanks! -
"though I figure they do more than a 24-hour test on them to make sure they work."
sadly, quality control is no longer affordable for just about all electronics companies. RMAs are cheaper to deal with overall. Rather then test products, they will test 1 out of every 100 or so, and just deal with the returns of faulty products. -
It took a while for my sister's monitor to work itself in, more than a week, and her computer was on most of the day. One thing; my sister had her monitor on full brightness and had the problem.
Good luck. -

As loopty mentions there is a fluorescent lamp in monitor (totally forgot that), my experience is that sometimes they flicker when you first put them on, it'll stop after a while (never heard that it didn't).
I've also been reading a Dutch forum, one thread about the A6 it is mentioned that some brand new A6T's (Z92T I think) also have the flickering screen, but not at all brightness levels. They didn't wait if it works itself out, they exchanged it, the next one also had the flickering screen. He and another person with the same problem are not going to exchange their notebooks (again). -
On one notch from totally dark, it's the LCD panel is totally dark on one side and slightly light on the other.
Anyway, it's going back to the supplier for credit. Going to go with an Ensemble, less likely to have problems, though I have a laptop SATA, a Core Duo T2400, a 3945 WiFi and a Kingston 667MHz 1 GB SODIMM sitting here doing nothing now... -
Yup I've got a A6Km and its doing the same thing as I type. I can hardly see it, but it does come and go. Mainly on battery though. Almost like the battery cannot supply constant smooth power to the machine.
I've seen it far worse though on other notebooks...
