    Hey guys,

I have a weird issue with an ASUS NV56VZ laptop.

When the system resumes from any sleep / low power / shut down state the screen has a weird distortion and grouping of horizontal lines.
The issue slowly goes away over a minute or 2 and then everything works perfectly until the screen turns off again.

I have a quick video of the issue here:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7WZnLmnXng&feature=youtu.be

Does anyone know a likely cause of this? The system is otherwise working really well with a completely fresh install of windows ect.

Faulty parts? Missing software / driver?

Any help is greatly appreciated :)

    Regards

I'm guessing it's either the screen or the video cable. Does anything happen when you pivot the cable?

Pivot the cable? You mean opening it up and ensuring the cable running from board to the screen is attached correctly?

Since it's only half the screen I'd guess the cable is the culprit too.

As Prostar alluded to, if you move the screen back and forth (to flex the cable) do you get any distortion on the screen?

Sometimes they can go bad, but finding a replacement can be challenging. There will be a tag or sticker on the cable that has a part number that you may be able to find.

Right, sorry for the nuance! I meant pivot the screen, therefore flexing the cable. Often times the cables are fine, but over time, from pivoting the screen, the cable's connection is strained and becomes improperly seated.

Ok, i've tried as you said. Pivotting the screen back and forth doesnt seem to have any impact on the distortion on the screen at all.

Something i've just noticed is that the lines seem to slowly move from covering 3/4 of the screen to 1/2 to 1/4 ect until they disappear all together.

I'll open it up and see if i can re-seat the display cable, hopefully not too hard, i have pretty limited experiance working in laptops :(

Ok, so i opened the unit up and re-seated the cable which didnt seem to help.

I couldn't see any obvious marking for part numbers so i guess will either have to put up with it or order a whole new screen assembly.

Any other ideas or thoughts? Thanks for the help so far.
