Hi, I'm trying to figure out the screen quality of the UX32VD with the TN Panel (1366x768 version). I'm basically deciding between a Vizio Ultrabook around that price with a 1080P IPS panel, or this one, where the advantage is the 620M. Does anybody know contrast/blacks/brightness etc. of the panel? I am familiar with the standard drawbacks of TN (poor viewing angle, -probably- a bad panel etc) but I was wondering if anybody knows for sure.

Asus Ultrabook 13.3" Laptop 4GB Memory 500GB Hard Drive UX32VD-R5504H - Best Buy is the one that I'd be looking at. I don't normally shop at best buy, but this is actually decent if the screen isn't terrible. Resolution is fine for a 13", but a bad screen panel would still suck.

I have the 1366x768 TN panel on my UX32A. For a 13 inch screen I really don't mind having such a low resolution. For my home setup I use a 1080p 23 inch Dell IPS. When I switch to the Zenbook there's definitely a big difference in screen quality but it's not something that irritates me.

    Brightness: bright enough
contrasts: not very good, but acceptable
    blacks: don't know
    viewing angle: haven't noticed anything.

I was also tempted by Vizio's nice screens when I was comparing ultrabooks. However the poor reviews on the touchpad and keyboard kept me from buying one.

IPS is considered quite a bit better than TN in terms of image clarity. Some report better blacks on TN panels due to the IPS counterparts requiring a stronger backlight. On the whole, the image quality difference is not DRASTIC, but it's noticeable (in favor of IPS).

It's like comparing screens between a modest feature cell phone v.s. a smartphone.

Nah. You can have good IPS screens and good TN screens. You have TN screens that blow IPS screens out of the water. But that doesn't usually happen. Like I said, I know the drawbacks/differences between the screen technologies, I'm just hoping that the Asus has a good TN screen (which I'll be happy with) as opposed to a bad TN screen (which I would not like). :p

That's true - it's all relative. I haven't come across any major gripes with UX32VD's display, for whatever it's worth to you. :) Haven't had the opportunity to do a comparison myself though.
