    Hey guys,

Some of you may have seen my previous topic that is long gone now. Basically, my screen has a dead pixel and a dead BUG inside of it, and I want to upgrade.

Now, here comes there hard part: I have the g50vt with a 16:10, 1680x1050 screen. Since I'm replacing the screen, I thought I might as well upgrade to the 16:9, 1920x1080 screen the new g51's have, if possible.

On asus's e-store, they have a replacement LCD screen bezel that fits the 16:9 screens, so that's easy.

My question is if my current LCD cover assembly (back part the the lid) will house the new 16:9 screen correctly, and if the plug will be the correct size to fit the newer screens.

    Thanks in advance!

If my math is correct the 16:9 screen would be 13.6in horizontally and 7.65in vertically while the 16:10 screen would be 13.23 horizontally and 8.27 vertically. So it's about a 1/2 inch difference in width and height between the two screens.

Yeah, that sounds about right. Thanks for the info!

I'm going to open up the lid, maybe not going as far as to remove the LCD completely, but at least to see screw placement and basics of how the screen fits in there.

Maybe then I will be lucky enough to find someone with a g51 willing to open it up and compare screen housings.

I'll post pictures if I get around to opening this baby up tonight.

My main point was that this wouldn't work without some extremely serious modding.

Really? Even though the g50vt was sold in 16:9 and 16:10 versions and the g51 is based on the same model?

The plastic part surrounding the screen would have to be replaced, the bracket holding the screen would most likely not fit the 16:9 screen, etc.

the only thing that will not fit is the bevel around the screen.
i mean if all else fails get a g51 or a g50vt-x1 or -x5. lid.

The bezel is easily replaced with the one sold on asus' e-store as said, however as I have discovered and as you said, the LCD bracket is much more of an issue. You can see in the pictures below that a lot of space is wasted on either side of the 16:10 screen.

My guess is that the 16:10 AND the 16:9 screen brackets have screws in the same places and just the shape of the bracket changes. So in theory, with a new and/or modded bracket, the 16:9 screen would fit.

However I am not really up to the task, so I will sadly be replacing this with another of the same screen.

Anyone ordered from screencountry.com before? Their price is significantly lower than other resellers and they appear to be verisign-secured.

Can I ask where you bought the screen and for how much?

If you are talking about the g51 16:9 screen, I never bought it or saw it online for sale, I was merely considering the possibility. Unfortunately, it won't work out.

However, screencountry.com has the 16:10, 1680x1050 screen for $160, which is significantly less than asus' own e-store and other laptop screen resellers. I also got in touch with them, and got a quick reply. They will replace the screen if I receive one with even one dead pixel, so I'm pretty psyched.
