Any word on when we'll see the SATA drives making an appearance in ASUS notebooks?

Do anyone know the sizes of the SATA drives?

fujitsu is the only one with sata notebook drives for sale so far..... and I have never trusted the quality of fujitsu.. But they have 40/60/80gb drives i think..... all 5400rpm.

Seagates is going to be nice.... hitachi's will be better.... 100/120gb 7200rpm .. woohoo!

But Asus has only used Hitachi (hitachi/ibm) in all of these systems in the last 5 years.... so on the ensemble side.. when they start using sata.. it will be hitachi.

On the barebone side... all of the dealers are free to put in whatever they choose... For us.. I prefer seagate for their 4200rpm battery life in a 5400rpm drive and their 5 year warranty.

Hitachi has a 3 year warranty and obviously 40 and 60gb 7200rpm drives... so we prefer them for a lot of reasons too.

In a month and a half (say June 1st).. I think we'll see everyone's sATA drives out on the market.

    Thanks,
    Justin

Will the Z63A support SATA? Also, what would the $ difference be from a Hitachi 60GB 7200 PATA vs SATA? Is SATA worth it?

They all will support it... it's a matter of having the connection for it, which I think Asus will turn around quickly.

I don't know.. since the drive doesn't exist yet, I'd be lying to you if I gave you an answer.... probably 15% more..... if you look at a fujitsu 60gb/5400rpm sata verses say a pata.. I think it's something like $30 difference maybe.... I'm not sure if thats right or if my percentage is right... but it's not going to kill you. It may not be worth the performance upgrade..... but it's not going to get you for more than another $50 I wouldn't think.

    Thanks,
    Justin

I can't wait for these baby to release. I am filling up my 60GB fast. I am about a little over 1/2 usage already.

Pictures from Canon 20D and Nikon D70 at max resolution and RAW format takes up too much space. LoL! I have about 4GB of pictures from the wedding shoot over the weekend.

I could really make use of that 120GB 7200RPM SATA.

Question: that little adapter that came with the Z71V, that is the SATA to PATA connector. So how do you connect the SATA to the laptop? Is the laptop by default PATA connection?

no.. thats an sata to some proprietary sata adapter on the motherboard....... the motherboard on the Z7 and W3.. all are made ready for sata, but needed to have an adapter to fit either pata or sata..... so don't worry... you'll get the full benefit of sata when you bump up.

I guess this one is directed Justin or anyone in the know: Is the v6v compatible with SATA? And also what about those PCI-Express Cards that are supposed to be coming soon. What ASUS laptops will be ready for those?
