Any clues how to get this working on the V6J?
Put a SD card in for the first time, and I have a yellow ! next to disk drives in device manager in xp. Don't see any drivers on the website for it to update the drivers, and it's not finding it in windows explorer.

try the asus website. see if they have a new device driver for it. Did you update any drivers prior to this happening or did it happen out of the box?

How bout deleting the device from Dev Manager, and reboot to let it detect, then use the Ricoh drivers from the ASUS site?

I am having the same problem but with a Dell Inspiron 6000 running XP/SP2. Supposedly this problem was fixed in SP2. No help from MS or Dell. Sorry if this muddies the issue.

I am having an identical problem with my new Dell D420 (running XP SP2). Have installed the Ricoh drivers from the Dell website as well as various other drivers from the site.

No result. I still have the yellow ! and the card reader still doesn't recognise the card.

    The Device status message says:

This device cannot start (Code 10)

I just realised that although I have run the Ricoh driver installation program, the drivers listed against the device are still the Microsoft ones.

I don't think the hardware is at fault as this seems to be a common problem for recent SD card readers. The computer beeps when I insert/ remove the card, so it knows something is going on.

I am going to try to uninstall the MS drivers and will report back if any results.

    **Update**
Just found this Microsoft KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921413 Will try and find out where I can get the updated files.

    **Update 2**
    SOME success...
    Found this thread http://www.notebookforums.com/thread167806-2.html
Apparently you have to get a Hotfix from Microsoft, but only through a direct request and you may have to pay for support, etc. However, someone has posted a link to the Hotfix in that thread (duplicated here) It's at the very bottom "A High Speed SD Secure Digital card does not work correctly in a Windows XP-based computer"

Please make your own judgement about the safety of this link. It seems to have improved my situation - the device does not show a yellow ! and sometimes shows up on the Explorer tree. However the SD cards still can't be read and appear unformatted, even though they have data on them. Not a complete solution, but some progress...

    **Final Update**
After a reboot it seems that it's working! I put in the SD card and it appears on XP File Explorer tree and will display the files in the DCIM folder.

In summary, all it needed was the installation of Hotfix KB921413 (obtained "indirectly" from http://hf.xable.net/download.php?KB921413-v4.exe) and a reboot.

I have had the same problem with a Gateway 3550GZ, and I think I may have found a Windows XP Hotfix that might fix your problem called Hotfix KB921413. Here is the link to Microsoft describing the problem:

    http://support.microsoft.com/KB/921413

And here is a link to a website that has it for download, just do a ctrl+f to search for KB921413:

    http://hf.xable.net/index.php

I downloaded and installed the Hotfix, but it did not work for me, however, I think that mine is just plain dead, while yours could still work. Hope this helps!
