I do not know what the problem could be my wife put the W3J in her closet 3 weeks ago after school got out for the summer. She got it out today and it will run off the power supply or off the battery but the battery seems to not charge. I have two batteries and neither will charge. I have two chargers neither will charge. What could the problem be?

Hmm... perhaps it's a power power supply issue. Call Asus tech support and see what they say. It may require an RMA if still under warranty but in general, they have a fairly fast turn-around time.

There could be something something wrong with the circuitry on the motherboard... I'd recommend giving Asus Tech Support an e-mail AND a call and see which one gives the best reply first.

If I paid for the place I bought it from to put a faster processor in it is there going to be any problem with that? That has never been a problem before and it has never been over clocked. I just am concerned they may have a problem with the different processor.

Yes, they may, because the ASUS seal is broken (it doesn't matter if it's overclocked or anything; moreover you can't overclock a notebook CPU :) ). On the other hand they may not care.

I suggest if the notebook is still under warranty from the reseller that upgraded the CPU, use that warranty instead of ASUS'.

Otherwise, just go ahead and try with Asus.

One of the other things that concerns me is will the drive be intact when it comes back? My wife does her class work on it. She will not be very happy if she looses all that data. What is the best way to back it up that is reliable to restore?

Thank you all for the help I appreciate it very much. :D

I would go with Asus' technical support. I sent my processor-upgraded W3J in for a video card problem and and they didn't mention the processor at all. So long as the upgraded component isn't causing the problem it doesn't seem like they care too much. My HD also came back untouched.

I highly doubt the cpu upgrade caused this, but what I want you to check is if the power brick has a green light when plugged in?

So take the power brick and plug it into the AC outlet, and don't plug it into the laptop, and see if the green light shows up.

Then repeat while having the laptop plugged in and see if the power brick has a green light.

From there you can tell whether the power cords are to be blamed or the circutry in the motherboard.

Plugged in with no computer there is a green light on the brick. Plugged in and plugged to the computer there is a green light. No orange charging light though on the computer. I do not think the processor upgrade is the problem but I also do not want the processor to be replace from Asus or anything else just the problem part.

I do not know if this means anything or might let you know what is going on. When I pull the power cord out it says it has 84% when I plug it back in it says there is 100% and never starts to charge.

Ok, lets try this again, from your testing there is nothing wrong with the power brick, your laptop runs fine on the AC, correct?

So the problem is charging the battery, both the main and modular one?

Your last post states your batteries are at 100%, but were previously at 84%. This happens time to time, where the battery miser says 98% but won't charge the last 2%, but in reality the batter is at 100%, it is just the ACPI needs a bit of a refresh, like removign the batteries and placing them back in, and then restarting.

So does the laptop run fine on batteries?

What started this is the battery was very low we plugged it in and then it would not charge. Removed power it said it was a dead battery but ran. I just put the low battery back in and it says "You should change your battery to keep from loosing your work". The orange light is blinking. This is the only time it produces light. But if I plug it in it does not show charging light and does not charge.

To answer your question it runs on batteries but once they are dead it does not run. If you plug it back in to power then it runs again.

Right now it shows ac power 100% battery power has an X on it.
