I dont understand why Asus does not have service repair manual or documentation. For example on how to disassemble the laptop case, keyboard, display, etc.
Does anyone know where I can find service repair manual for my u80v laptop? This laptop is hard to come by, so I think perhaps the u80vt might be very similar in disassembly instructions.
THanks

Asus no longer provides disassembly guides to the public as they fear people will accidentally damage their laptops. However, like most UL series, removing the keyboard, case and display should be fairly easy. For starters, here's what you'll have to do for disassembling the laptop case, keyboard and display.
Make sure you remove the battery before doing any laptop surgery.
Keyboard:
Unhook the 4 clips on the top of the keyboard with a small flat heat screw driver and flip the keyboard towards you. Remove the cable from the motherboard.
Laptop case:
Remove keyboard. Remove all cables you see that are connected. Remove the dummy SD card from your media card reader. Unscrew all screws from the bottom of the laptop and from beneath the keyboard. You may have to break the warranty seal by removing one of the screws underneath the keyboard. Try not to break the seal so you can use it again.
Start prying the top case chassis with your fingers. Start at a corner and work your way around the laptop.
Display:
With your fingernails, remove the circular rubber stickers surrounding the screen bezel. Underneath these stickers are screws. Remove screws.
Pry the bezel with your fingers starting with a corner and work your way around. -
thanks for the reply.
The reason I wanted to disassemble the laptop case is because the left side of the edge if I put enough pressure there is a slight creaking, squeaking noise. During typing its not an issue, only if I apply pressure to the edge. Its just a tad annoying, since this is the only place. Its nothing like the issue the u80vt has apparently, based on the reviews that I read.
I want to see why this is happening.
Also, is it really necessary to remove the cover on the back where the hard drive is and memory modules?
Thanks. -
so I tried for sometime to pry the keyboard but I could not do it. it seems you have to push the tabs that hold it down in place back, but I will tell you its really hard to do it without scratching the surface or the edge. so instead of scratching it im gonna just leave it alone. I wish there were some kind of flat screwdriver head that was soft, instead of metal.
apparentrly if u can press all four tabs back then you can lift it probably
