I recently tried to use my Asus notebook N10J (Vista) to run slide shows on a HDTV but could not get my computer to hold the setting to extend the monitor to the TV. When I try to extended the setting to my HDTV a pop-up appeared on my computer monitor asking if I wanted to keep these setting with a 15 second countdown at which time it would revert back to the original settings. I click yes that I want to keep the settings but it reverts back anyway. The option to extend the desktop reads as follows: "Extend the destop to this monitor" as if I have to designate a particular monitor somehow or perhaps be hooked up to a monitor prior to attempting to extend the monitor. To complicate things further, in the Display Settings/Monitor there are two options to choose from...1. "Generic PnP Monitor on Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family"...and 2. "(Default Monitor) on Mibile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family". The setting that was normally used is setting number 1 but both setting act the same when trying to extend the monitor and both have the same driver number (V7.14.10.1461). Please note that in the "(Default Monitor) and Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family" dialogue box under the "troubleshoot tab", "Change Settings" is not highlighted with a note below it that reads "Your current display driver does not allow changes to be made to hardware accleration settings." I believe the problem is the driver is outdated but when I tried updateing the installed driver is showing the most current. However, when I checked the Asus drivers download site and manual it appears Nvida driver V7.15.11.7623 is a newer available driver. One final detail...on the "(Default Monitor) and Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family" options page, under the the "Troubleshooting" tab, the option to "Change Settings" is not highlighted with a note under it that reads "Your current display driver does not allow changes to be made to hardware acceleration settings.
I gave all of this detail hoping that if anyone that reads this has had the same or a a similar problem with not being able to extend their monitor you might share how you fixed that problem. Also, manually downloading and installing drivers can be a tricky task and since I've never done that I'm wondering what is the best and safest method for installing this driver. I normally use a free program such as slimdriver to keep my drivers current but slimdriver is saying that all drivers are current which it's self is concerning since in manually checking I did not find that to be the case. Any suggestions to fix this problem will be greatly appreciated.

    hirize,

Have you tried the latest nvidia driver for your 9300M GS?
    NVIDIA DRIVERS 307.83WHQL

Are you using HDMI connectivity to connect to your TV? If yes, can you check and see if your TV has PC mode?
Try and set the TV as the primary display, and see if the setting would stick.
