Guys after breezing through the forum, i see alot of problems with the new g73jh's.

Based on your experiences do you think i should buy this laptop? or just save myself a headache? Are the issues really annoying and not worth the time?

Yes, it is as problem free as any other laptop. Buy it from a reputable dealer, and if it has issues return it.

It does doesn't it. Why I haven't ordered one yet :( I'm waiting for a new bios release and then see some positive outcomes from that before I get close to getting this one. But starting @ $1199 this laptop defiantly the best bang for buck around in the 17" market.

By far especially with all the amazing specs, but they don't do any good unless they actually work. Hey guys i have a lambo you can buy it for 1,000 dollars, it just shuts down every 2 minutes lol

I have noticed that most of the problems appear to have been with the earlier revisions, which are no longer in the retail stream.

I think your chances of getting a laptop with issues is significantly lower now.

A lot depends on how you use it. I've had 4 asus laptops I over the past 12 months and they've all worked perfectly BB G50VT, BB G72, BB G73 and now G73 X2. Other than adding addl hard drives and the occasional wifi card I've used the stock system and software (though I did upgrade the G50 to Win7). No overheating or crashes. The systems were/are for games only! No office or benchmarks etc. I only use them connected to AC. So no battery issues. I don't press Fn-esc and I don't reinstall windows. I use what it came with other than uninstalling trend av and a few asus utils.

I suspect many people do much the same and have few problems.

Of course if you want to play with settings and tweak performance loading the latest drivers and bios perhaps this laptop isn't for you.

Of note; with 2 hard disk positions I clone my system before making any changes. If it doesn't work I can easily go back. So far only done this on the G50 & G72 since the G73s are too recent to need it.

    Cheers,

The only real problem I ever had with mine, had to do with Creative software being incompatible with "whatever", and causing freezing when I tried to load Steam.

Since I uninstalled the Creative software (which is really unnecessary, in my opinion), my G73 has been running flawlessly.

I have never had a BSOD, PSOD, GSOD.......or any other kind of SOD.

I upgraded the Bios for the first time, from 204 to 209 beta, just for the heck of it really, and everything still runs great. Plus a couple of issues were resolved with the 209 which never really were a bother to me (throttling and FN+Esc issues).

I can tell you, before I bought this laptop I read so many posts/reviews about it, and unfortunately it was mostly negative stuff. I came close to not buying it, but then I thought BestBuy is a 10 min drive from me, so if I get it and it doesn't work for me, I will just return it.

I got it and am happy to say I definitely do not regret the purchase.

Just my own opinion, based on my own experience.

+1 for Swiss. I agree and nvr uninstalled creative but I use direct2drive.com not steam.

I bought the $1,200 G73jh model from BestBuy last week. Out of the box, I ran Orthos for an hour, 3DMark06 and several other testing tools. Did not crash.

Flashed from 205 bios to 206, wiped the machine and installed Windows 7 Enterprise and loaded the new ATI Mobility 10.5 drivers.

Loaded up the single player campaign in MW2 and played for an hour without crashing.

Loaded up Heroes of Newerth, played a short 30 min game without GSOD.

So yeah, I was worried when I bought the machine, but either I got lucky, or I'm part of the norm. Also, I took off the factory and BestBuy box seal without breaking (sloowwwly), so I can return the machine without the restock fee if does happen. Just an FYI. ;)

If you think about it, most of the comments on this forum are problems that users face. Those who do not have problems rarely post , hence this results in a skewed perception of ASUS G73's being widely unstable.

I would recommend buying it, I recently bought mine and do not have any 'huge' issues. I have had a few BSOD's but that was because of incompatible programs with Windows 7

Same here... so far I haven't had any issues with the A2. I upgraded the bios to 209 because I did experience the lock up when pressing Fn+Esc. However, everything else has been great. Been playing SC2 since I got it. Also tested out MW2 and it ran great.

I'm thinking to buy a G73, for i want to remplace a iMac and no only use it like a simple desktop, with social networks, browsing and retouch photos. I like use it like a Desktop, and play many games, here is much more expensive than USA, 2100$ just for the same machine, and my question is? Will burn it in 2-3 years or can use it, all days, with a 2-7 hours use?
I'm too thinking to buy Alienware M15x, but have low diference in price, and no have 8Gbs ram
Is good option or you think have better options?

If you don't need a new computer right away, For me Gateway was always a good machine. So i would wait till the end of this year im sure gateway will come out with a new FX series and nice specs like they always do.

Right now i myself am thinking about the ASUS but i am scared of it. Even though people say that "people who come on the forums are the small majority with the problems" and thats understandable.

but when i was in the gateway forums the small majority were not reporting serious issues like video cards dying/ blue screens of death/ hardware failure/ extreme heat ect.

It was mostly like my audio makes a pin noise or scratch sometimes when i stream a video.

So i myself don't know yet but i might hold out on the ASUS once again, these issues are to serious to risk $1000+ on. I will keep researching on it and see if these issues get resolved or not. Because even if its something like software and drivers and not the physical hardware itself it still doesn't matter, if no fix becomes available the good hardware is still useless.
