I've been charged, but it hasn't been packaged or shipped. Can I cancel and if I can, should I?

I'm not *EXTREMELY tech savvy, I can do an install with their disks since I've done so with a G50.

    What should I do?

I would Stick it out. Asus is a great company with an excellent reputation in customer support and warranty service. Once these small bugs are ironed out im sure this notebook will rock.

Not to say that the OP should cancel the order, but actually ASUS does not have a very good history in fixing firmware and software bugs; for instance, the keyboard lag problem that many models suffer from is more than 1 year old, and yet it has not been fixed. The (well known in older days) battery bug of the V6J, V1, R1 models took three model generations to fix... etc.

On the other hand the W90 is quite a popular model, so if many people complain there may be a good chance that the problems are fixed.

Also are these problems really well-established and proven? Are several users verifying that they have the same problem? I have not read the owner's lounge thread in detail, so I cannot be sure about their extent. I suggest think thoroughly before you cancel.

My thoughts are as I just wrote you in the 'Owners Lounge'......

    Quotes:

I prefer to wait on what ASUS has to say......

This model has only been released, and in our hands now, for two days...... and I am amazed at the loss of confidence. TWO of us, have reported a mere 'lock-up' issue, and folks are already thinking of returns, refunds, or canceling their orders. It seems we have created a frenzy of lost faith here, and ASUS hasn't even been given time to address the issue.

Sure, I think ASUS probably made an error here in the release of the W90Vp-X1..... but now they have been inform, and I feel confident they will correct the problem. Furthermore, I do not feel this 'lock-up' diminishes the W90, it is simply a software issue that must be addressed! :)

I would urge patients here...... the W90 still has the potential to be a great notebook! :D

***WHAT IS THE EXTENT OF THIS PROBLEM?***

Is it like REALLY REALY unstable, like "don't even think trying to install any game because it crashes on Solitaire and is more of a BSOD machine than anything else" unstable... or is it "plan on clean install upon arrival and going a day without a BSOD isn't too much of a miracle" unstable.

I do not see it as a major issue..... I have well detailed the issue in the 'Owners Lounge'. :)

After numerous lockups on initial login attempts, I attempted a recovery from the provided vista discs and driver cd, and the problems significantly worsened to the point where I could not even be sure I could load a webpage without a bsod. However, I tried a last ditch complete re-install of vista using my own discs and downloaded only necessary drivers from the asus site itself. So far so good, but I haven't put it through anything intense yet.

I think your answer lies in whether or not you NEED a new laptop right now. If you do, go ahead with the order realizing you may have some teething pains. If not why not cancel and see how it all shakes out?

From what I understand once you open your package from NewEgg it's yours forever, and can only be exchanged for another identical unit. You might want to wait until other vendors like Amazon, Xotic PC, GenTech, maybe even Best Buy have it and buy from one with a more flexible returns policy. Some resellers may even have a burn-in and test option for a few dollars extra so you know the machine you're getting is working as intended out of the box.

I would cancel it and wait for fix from "Asus".
Hey I know u want it, I know it's awsome machine, but why buy something that doesn't work ? It makes no sense.
I'm buying this machine in a week or two but I won't buy it to try to fix it, and hope it works, it's $3000 machine for me and I expect quality, not a headache.
Either way don't buy something that doesn't work, u'r just feeding them money for bad product. The faster the ppl cancel orders or do returns or complain a lot the faster they'll fix it.

I Know everyone like Asus, but it's just anpther company trying to make money off of u and don't kid yourself that they "care". Everything has to do with money.
