Since both G1 and V1 are at the end of its production, they should sell for cheaper.

    I can get G1 for:

    11000 HKD which translates to

    1400 US
    1,487.61 cnd
    692.036 GBP

or I can get V1 which should be around the same place.

Another thing is...is G1S and V1S that much better than G1 and V1? Is the worth the extra dough to ditch out?

    Thanks for your input!

the GPU in the G1S is faster than the old G1, dunno about the V1 but im guessing its about the same issue. the CPU upgrade speeds are minimal so the only big thing worth it I think is the GPU. how much is the G1S over there? if its just $200 more then I would suggest you go for it but if its 400+ more then perhaps it just might not be worth the price difference.

So the speed different is substantial?

V1 looks so much better! but its about 1000 HKD more, so around 130 USD.

I guess what I am trying to ask is if 1400 USD for G1 is a good deal or not.

I've been trying to decide to buy a A8JS or V2Je..

But really, I'll be really bugged once the new-gens come out in 3 weeks, so I'm taking my mind off laptops.

That is hell of a good deal.

By the way not only is it a faster processor and better video card. It is using a newer Intel PM965 chipset, so it is alot better.

If you don't mind the inferior gaming performance, lack of DX10 support (but Not like G1S/V1S will run Crysis well anyway xD), and inferior battery life and you want to save $$, then hop on the band wagon

Sorry I misread it. But I still think its a good deal. By the way, Santa Rosa notebooks are actually cheaper than a notebook configured the same under Napa platform. The processors are cheaper by part in Santa Rosa, I have no idea why though...

If the G1 does what you need/want it to do then get it. 1400 dollar is a pretty fair price. It is another 400ish dollar for the G1S. I have the G1 and I am quite happy with it...only wish i had gotten a smaller laptop.

I personally think that Santa Rosa is overhyped. The performance increase is not going to be noticeable in the real world, since the CPU still has the 4MB L2 cache.

    Just an opinion.

Realisticly you are right. It does however offer better power consumption, and about a 20% increase in performance from NAPA, due to the 800 MHz bus, and all the other features that are supposed to be apart of the centrino platform such as wireless-n, turbomemory, etc. This is the way computers work. IF you currently own something, I personally tell people, don't upgrade until 2-3 generations down the line, becuase by that time your hardware will finally become obselte and ridden by security issues.

So if you own a Napa notebook, don't upgrade to Santa Rosa. Thats just silly. You should probably wait until Montevina, or even later to the Santa Carla platform I believe is what it will be called. That is when you will see a significant performance increase from Napa. But between Santa Rosa and Montevina that difference will be minimal once again.
