Well I am going to purchase a laptop for university, and I was planning to purchase either a Dell Studio 15 or a HP DV6, both with X4500 graphics since I didn't plan to play games in University.

However, I was browsing tigerdirect.ca yesterday and saw this deal on a ASUS G50Vt-X5-RF.

Even though I didn't plan to get an expensive laptop, I thought this laptop was a good deal since other laptops that are $850 CAD don't come close to the specs of this one and $850 is around my budget. Having a good graphics card and CPU is definitely a plus.

Well yesterday I planned to go to one of their retail stores to pick one up since stocks are apparently running out quickly. However, the retail store have nothing left in stock but an employee there ordered one for me and that one is set to arrive by the end of next week.

This gives me a week to think everything over. I am wondering how G50Vt-X5 owners think of the laptop. I am wondering about its build quality and everything. I also heard this laptops overheats, is that true? This thing is also refurbished and I'm wondering how ASUS refurbished laptops are like.

Last but not least the warranty is 3 months and this is also something I'm concerned about. I'm not sure if buying a laptop with 3 months of warranty is a good idea. Is this laptop reliable enough?

So I'm basically asking if I should purchase this laptop when considering everything. :)

    Bump

    I'm especially concerned about:

    1) How refurbished ASUS models compare with new ones.

    2) If it is a good idea to buy a laptop like this with 3 months warranty. Should I purchase an extended warranty otherwise.
