My asus G73JHA1 is over 5 years old now and the hard drive has begun to fail (strange noises on startup and failure to spin up). The last disk check showed multiple bad sectors as well. Can I expect the other components in the laptop to follow suit or would a new hard drive be a good solution. Only reason I ask is I would rather not spend money on a hard drive that will remedy nothing.

Hard drive is a cheap fix. Just replace with a SSD and keep it running.

Well hdd fail first after fan Fan can be just stuck and need lube. Gpu after that may fail. If you did not beat that laptop to death it should last a long time.

Hard to say if other components will fail soon. Just because the hard drive has, doesn't mean other parts will follow soon. I'd replace it with an SSD and keep if if its still handling your needs.

Thanks for the replies all. Would you happen to have any recommendations on good affordable hard drives? Something under $100 would be great.

Well the 2TB samsung spinpoint can be had for $110 just so you are aware, but under than any 1TB 7200rpm drive should do the job.
