I am trying to install skype on my newly arrived Asus G1S. Unfortunately, I keep getting an error everytime I try to install it. This is what the error message says verbatim:
C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\O45DV3VE\SkypeSetup[1].exe is not a valid Win32 application.
How do I solve this problem?
-
save it to the desktop. Sometimes when you click run, that happens.
-
-
Download it onto another computer and copy it over? Stop using Vista?
If it says it isn't a valid Win32 application, it means that it doesn't see the normal information for a Windows EXE file at the beginning of the file, meaning that file is probably corrupt or 0 bytes.
I suppose it's possible if you have an overly-aggressive 3rd party firewall/antispam/antispyware program it might do that. Some of them prevent EXE files from being run directly from a temp folder.
Or maybe you're being funneled through a proxy? If you save it to the desktop, what is the size of the file? -
weird... let me try.
-
well, it worked for me. Try saving it somewhere else, lik C:\ or something.
-
The size of the file is 20.5MB. I am downloading it directly from the website and using vista. I have several freinds with vista and it runs fine for them.
-
Hmm, the size of my download is 22,5. I'm using Xp though.
-
I have it on another comuter aswell that is XP. I had no problems there. I did just get this laptop today so is there a security program that is prohibiting Skype?
-
What do you have installed, security wise?
-
well, I did turn off several programs including some security functions. Norton Anti Virus is currently disabled. I don't know where to go to find others.
-
Transfer it from the XP compy. Or download Firefox or something and try downloading again.
-
Woah, it works! Very strange. Thanks!
-
Which sollution?
-
I dragged skype onto a flash drive from my xp computer and put it on the laptop.
-
I think your downloads were being corrupted by something. The exe-file size was 22,5 MB for me vs 20,5 on your vista lappy.
Skype?
