I often hit the "Fn Zz" to put my computer in sleep mode. Many times when I wait for a while and return I cant get the computer back up and running .

The same thing happened on my other older IBM laptop as wel . .BTWl

    Any advice out there?

I really have no idea what's happening to your computer, but do you mean that the mouse won't wake it up? I always just hit the spacebar to bring it out of sleep mode.

I will say that I can't get my z63 to come out of hibernate mode at all. I recommend disabling it by going into the Power Options control panel > hibernate tab

To get out of hibernate mode you have to push the power button.

If you already knew that, then I will shutup now :D

Yeah hibernation mode seems to cause a lot of problems for people. I don't like it. I just stick with standby and turn off hibernate in the power settings.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Not sure about the Z70Va...but for the Z63A, I know that some computers have problems if a certain BIOS option is enabled.

BigV, go into your BIOS and go to the CPU Configuration page. Make sure "Execute Disable Function" is DISABLED. Your sleep/standby function should be working properly.

I always use hibernation. I had the problem with Execute Disable (this may have been fixed in the more recent BIOS). The original network driver also caused problem with hibernation and I uninstalled the Asus auto-update which I suspected might be interfering with resume.

Asus is more efficient at posting updates for the W3A than for the Z63A, but the W3A updates work fine for the Z63A - even the BIOS (and you then get an Asus logo on the screen when the computer boots).

I just close the lid and it will hibernate automatically. To turn it back on, i justhit the arrow key and it will turn right back up to usable screen in 3 sec.

do you mean suspend to RAM or suspend to disk? I'm just wondering, since the default for when you close the lid is suspend-to-RAM

EDIT Re: Hibernation: I checked the BIOS for the Execute Disable, and it's off. It will power on, go through POST, and the "resuming windows" little progress bar, and then dump me to a black screen.

This is a problem many people have had and it is due to the netowrk driver. Install the latest one from the ASUS site and no other and it should work fine.

Could you be more specific about the network driver? I see one on the asus site, a Lan driver, but thats for win2k

    Thanks

My comp is not an Asus, but I cannot wake my comp out of standby with external USB disk attached. It works well without it. Hibernate also works perfectly.

    Cheers,
