Hey everyone,
Bought a W3V about a week or so ago, I absolutely love it. I was so darn pleased to find no dead or stuck pixels on my screen I nearly wept for joy.
What I did notice today, however, is a small dent about the size of a grain of salt on my screen. It's really troublesome to see it, as I was horribly meticulous and neurotic when it came to closing and storing the laptop.
I was wondering if ASUS would be able to replace that glossy layer if I sent it in to them? Anyone with past experience with ASUS repair and warranty issues please feel free to chime in. Thanks!

that's quite unfortunate. you sure it's a dent and not stubborn dirt or somethin? best of luck.

A dent does seem very unlikely... i can't imagine how that is possible.

Maybe it's not a dent but rather a pit? I have never seen one on a notebook but I have seen it on some glossy LCD televisions and I've seen it on some Sony PSPs. These pits are about the size of a grain of salt. I've never seen a screen with only 1 pit though, usually cluster of 2-3 and 3-5 clusters.

Hi again everyone,
Thanks for the replies. Well, when I first opened up the notebook yesterday, the screen was still off and the lighting from the back was shining on it. I thought it was a spot of water, or a bit of dust, but it turned out to be a small "pit" (better word, thanks). I e-mailed ASUS but they misunderstood it to be a stuck pixel.
Is there a number I could call where I could reach some good tech support? I know there are the ones on their website which I will be trying tomorrow, but if there are any more specialized numbers where I could reach someone that could really help, any info on those would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! -

You don't need good tech support to explain you have a pit in your screen, you just need to be able to explain it better......... you don't have a "tech" issue........ you need to speak to someone in RMA..... sometimes you need to get a case number from someone in tech support and then speak to RMA about something something about it.

This would be considered physical damage. I would contact your dealer first. Most dealers would try and help you even for products warranted directly by asus. I would

This is a tough one..... a pit the size of a grain of salt... it could be something that happened in production and might not be anything that anyone would do..... The dealer isn't going to do anything about it unless Asus will... and if they will when Asus says they won't do anything... it'll be happier times for you, but sadder times when they just sell they unit to someone else. If Asus won't take care of something like this for whatever reason, the dealers hands are often tied.
Like Eddie said, it could be considered physical damage...... things like that are checked prior to shipping from Asus and these units are supposed to only be opened by the end user...... so Asus could honestly say, we have good QC and physical damage isn't covered......... If it's something that obviously couldn't have been done by you, I could certainly see Asus understanding the issue and taking care of it for you. Situations like this are a lot easier to take care of if they already know of the problem... say they had a small batch that something like this happened to, or it's happened in the past...... I hope your problem is the only one in respect to the model..... but for your sake, I hope it's happened before so they understand and will take care of it for you. -
i'm very curious to see how this turns out, please keep us informed.
from my viewpoint, the ensemble notebooks are billed as higher level of quality, with an extra level of service from asus. you pay for this in both price, and the inability to customize. so, when something like this happens, i hope i'd be able to have it returned, especially if i just got the unit, and simply want a replacement. a pit in the glass wouldn't be acceptable to me either. -

Well don't over do it....... you're getting what you pay for, but if you did this to the screen it's not going to be covered...... it's a matter of how it got there and Asus understanding it was there before it was recieved.....
They should be able to do something. -
Thank you all for your replies, I will continue to keep you guys updated as to the status of this.
There is absolutely no way that this little pit was caused by me. I know it sounds rather arrogant to say that, but I'm really 99.9% sure. I've only had the unit for a week, and for the entire time it's been sitting idly on my desk. During the first three days or so, I was so paranoid that I didn't even take off the plastic screen protector, and always put on the little cloth when I closed the unit. I continue to put the plastic + cloth on when closing the unit.
I don't mind sending the unit in for a quick fix if at all possible. In fact, I'd rather not exchange for another unit as I really fear having to try my luck with the stuck pixel game again. (Bad experience with LCD monitors in the past) Everything else about the unit is seriously excellent, all that would need a change is the glossy layer of the screen. It seems like a quick and easy fix, and nobody would have to suffer secondhand from it. I don't know if such is possible, but if it is I'd prefer to go the route.
Anyways thanks guys for your support and replies, I'll keep posting as to how it goes. -

No one here is accusing you of it.... it's just strange to begin with and I couldn't imagine how it would get there period.... let alone think of a way to actually do it yourself....
