I picked it up at $1000 on a whim, figured I could sell the SLi1 I have and break even.
The three most important things I wanted to know
1 - I tweaked the services and I'm still @ 70 processes. I don't know what stuff related to ASUS I can kick off. Just games, movies and anything needed for wireless. I'm not running AV, just the firewall & defender. I'd like to get it under 40. Low-Mid 30s if possible.
2 - I DL'd Evga Precision and my clocks are 400/800/300. I'm assuming I'm in a power saving mode or something that's downclocking since it isn't gaming ATM.
-How do I disable?
-What do I use to OC the GPU?
Yes, I'm not much for reading/searching through manuals.
3 - Any Drivers I SHOULDN'T try. I was thinking of the Vx64 version of the ones I used on my SLi1 [Dox 180.43] I don't need to worry about GTA4 issues.

well so far 179.14, 180.70, and 179.28 work great for me... the rest are either unstable or performance is not as great as the three listed above.
dont know about the rest sorry. -

Where did you get the 180.70? I've looked in the modded infs of that driver and one of the 181s @ laptopvideo2go and I and I don't see the 9800m GS listed.
I need 180.43 or better for FC2.
Can I get a link?
And what about the GPU clocks? Can I OC? Is it just that Evga precision doesn't recognise the model cause the 9800m GS is new? Does Rivatuner work? -
rivatuner works, so does ntune, just not on all drivers... you have to look through laptopvideo2go.com and find out for each specific drivers.
i got dox 180.70 from there, make sure you get dox's version. You can try any driver from ltv2go with theyr modded inf.. so first you dl the driver, then you extract, the you download the modded inf and save it to the same folder.. its gonna ask you if you want to replace the file and press yes.
For dox drivers just download and install they are already modded for laptops. -
About the processes question. You can use windows defender to clean the unwanted apps from starting up. That is can get it down a bit. This might be useful:

Also there is a highly recommended free vista tweaking program called 'vista master'. You can find english version easily on google. -

Is it cause everything from the nvidia control panel to the video driver to gpu-z thinks the 9800m GS is a GT? I'll retry the 180.70, Fallout 3 kept crashing so I swtched them out, but it seems it was a corrupt save.
At least the 180.43 will run all the games I have [thru FC2] for now. Is this GS/GT mixup thing something that will get resolved?
So I just picked up th ASUS G50VT-X1 and I need some help
