I was first going to go with a Sony BZ series, but for about the same price I can get an Asus G60Vx-RBBX09 at Best Buy for $1100, or the G51VX @ Newegg.com

Best Fly has the $999 model on display, but the above link shows on their website an upgraded version with the 2.5ghz processor.
OF course, then I saw the one on Newegg that has the 15.6 screen, but has 1920x1080 resolution.
Here's my problem.
The 16" version @ BestFly has a 1366x768 resolution and seems to be perfect for the 16" screen. The text is not small at all to read and looked crystal clear. With that in mind comes the warranty. You only get a 1 year warranty and then have to buy the GeekSquad warranty to extend it out.
The 15.6" however has the higher resolution and better warranty. From what I have read on here in various areas the 15.6 @ the higher resolution will make the text/icons and everything else extremely small. Can I simply reduce the resolution to 1366x768 on the 15.6" screen to balance things out?????
Does anyone have any screen shots of the 15.6 G51 @ different resolutions?
Anything else I should be worried about on either unit before I drop the ball today?
Thank you so much for your help guys.

Yes, you can reduce the resolution on the g51 to 1366x768. Mine goes as low as 800x600.

Interesting use of colloquialisms... it's "Pull the Switch" not "Drop the Ball".... :0
Get the resolution you want to keep your desktop and/or game on. You don't want to run at non-native resolutions (ever).
Text is not an issue because text can be increased in size through the OS or various programs.
Also, where is there a store named Best Fly? -
Personally I do run in non-native resolutions (especially in games) and its fine for me but native is certainly best. -

Well I called Asus regarding the Best Buy models. He pretty much said they are made exclusive to Best Buy and are "cheaper-made" than ones from standard Asus retailers.
I'm not certain if there is any truth to that but that's what the guy told me.
I also went back to Best Buy and looked @ the only 1920x1080 computer they have; the HP Envy 15.6" . I swear the screen on that computer looks very, very small compared to the other 15.6" screens. The monitor also did not have an option for a 1366x768 resolution.
The above screen shots appear to be normal looking truthfully, but when I looked @ the HP Envy the text within the control panel and other areas was ultra, ultra small. The DPI settings were also on "Medium", I changed to "High (150%)" and it helped a lot. The offset to that is programs did not display correctly on the screen.
Newegg has a heck of a deal on that laptop, but their no return policy has be a bit spooked if I purchase this thing and can't adjust the screen to a 1366 to gain larger text sizes.............ah what to do.................. -
Best Buy WorstBuy, BestFly, etc
Why should one not run at a native resolution ever? If it is a 1920x1080 and you drop it to a 1366x768, I can only assume it would be better than zooming in to 150% ???
Instead of a screen shot, can someone just snap a few pictuers of the 1920x1080 for me? The screen shots on my PC (Gateway MX7120) are pretty blown-up. A picture would be more real-world examples between the two resolutions?
Thanks again -
That G51vx-X3A is practically the same as my A1 except for the CPU and hard drive space. So yes you can adjust the screen resolution no problem from 1920x1080 all the way down to 800x600 or 1280x720 to keep the right 16:9 ratio.
Using the native resolution will give you the most crisp, accurate text and images. I switch when needed. In 1366x768 it looks fine but still native is the best. Put it this way, 1366x768 (as native) on the g60 will look better than 1366x768 on the g51 because the g51 is stepping down from 1920x1080 (correct me if I'm wrong folks). Still looks OK but native is always the sharpest.
As far as small icons and text goes you can always adjust that in windows. You can adjust anything! Its a computer!! -

Or even right click on the Desktop, select Personalize, then Display Settings and adjust the slider to the resolution you want.

Maybe it has something to do with which display adapter/drivers? I'm using the DOX drivers and I'm pretty sure the original drivers gave me the same options as well. Could the G51j be different? -
-
No I'm in Vista, guess I should have mentioned that. Is Win7 display properties different?
-
^most likely. go with the G51 newegg, the machine can run 1080p fine, just needa OC a lil and NOT put AA in some games. other games like MW2, valve games run maxed above 60fps always...for me at least.

So it's safe to say that I can run the computer in a 1366x768 resolution to increase the font size and not get the screwy font sizes like I would get if I used the 150% DPI increase? -

I see what you guys mean. 1366x768 doesn't look like its listed for you too fuyuki unless, as you drag the slider, there are other resolutions that aren't permanently listed and pop up as you drag. But regardless, Cheeseman's got a method.
Can you Win7 users increase icon size by holding ctrl and using the mouse wheel on the desktop? -
Instead of increasing the DPI in the control panel, can I simply adjust the font sizes to "large" and adjust further from there like you can in XP ?
So I've decided on an Asus....now which one.
