    The Z96 is still around.

From what I hear, this is their plan:

ASUS ENSEMBLE notebooks are their preconfigured notebooks that will be their main notebook group.

Barebones will be seperated into two groups, Power By ASUS and VBI(Verified by Intel). The former will be desktop replacement barebones(Like the C90s) and the latter will be a separate barebone group for dealers(Like the Z96s).

If you mean the Z70 and Z71 series, they were the M6 and M7, they were not meant to be barebones but ASUS N.A. convinced ASUS Taiwan to give them barebones of those :p

Ya well the z series is gone

but the most similar one is going to be called the f3 something.

You want the vbi model with a top end lcd and bluetooth right?

Well you want the f3 something with the WSXGA screen.

These is a lot of confusion with what Asus is doing with their whitebox line up. Here is what we know.

The Z series is not gone, below you can find a link to the Z series models.

    http://asmobile.whiteboxworld.com/

The whitebook barebone's from Asus is now under ASMobile. Asus will primarily focus on their ensemble notebook under the Asus name. You will find on the Asus website less and less about barebone models. ASMobile also sells VBI supported notebook models through an Aggregate to the VBI channel. These notebooks will be essentially the same models as the Z series but will carry the S in front of them, color, & chassis design maybe different among other things but they will share the same motherboard and some components. The Z models will typically have high end screens than VBI and more options such as blue tooth. What it looks like also is that VBI models on some like the S96S use a silver/black two tone chassis and the Z Series be different the Z96S is all black. All of the Z models will be CBB compliant meaning they do support common building block components but they are supported by Asus and the stock components in them could be higher than what the aggragate is ensembling for Intel VBI Channel.

Also to clear up one other topic under the new revamped VBI Program the customizable panel has been removed from the CBB requirements for VBI models. What does this mean? Well pretty much nothing but some of the newer VBI models from Compal, Asus & Mitec will no longer have the cutout in the back for the panel for a customizable panel, while others will still have it. The Z series will still have the small rectangle cutout on outside and inside of the lid.

    Hope this helps everyone.
