Hey guys, I got an Asus N81V. Last time I used it was November 2011. I remember trying to reinstall Windows 7 on it because I was planning to sell it, but never had the time. Now I have time and I'm trying to do a clean install (or at least wipe the hard drive) so I can perhaps sell it or give it to someone I know. Anyway, here's the problem.

When I try to turn on the computer, I get this:

So naturally, I put in the recover disc (the only disc that came with the computer), and change the boot sequence to this:

    Then I get the wizard:

And when I run the wizard, I get this screen:

After that there's nothing I can press that will change the screen. So I have to turn it off. Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

There is a long thread here about the ERROR screen. ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Forum- [Recovery Error] "Cannot load imagex 0 from src WIM file" I would put the disk in another machine and see it it is readable in windows explorer first. If the disk can not be read, try F9 after power on to see if you can recover from the Factory restore partition. I assume you have no user data on the machine.
AFA the BootMgr issue see this http://www.ehow.com/how_8349436_fix-missing-bootmgr.html
If you need a link to download the required Win 7 DVD let us know

The BootMgr ehow didn't work. But I'm trying the first method, and recovery is in progress, let's see where it ends. At least it started recovering this time.

Also, the GPU fan is always on high. I cleaned this laptop so that there is literally 0 dust in the fan (I took the fan out of the GPU even to clean every nook and crannie) but it does not help. Any idea why?

Glad to hear some progress! When you say the fan is on high do you mean right now during recovery? If yes that sounds normal, when I run anyting outside windows such as linux from CD or Asus Express Gate.. I hear mine real loud!

No, I mean all the time. As soon as I press the on button, the fan goes on high.

Actually, it's a software problem. The restore is done, and I now have a clean install of Windows 7 and the fan isn't on high all the time anymore.

    +rep to you sir
