I'm just curious. I noticed that there were both Socket 478 and 479M Pentium Ms. But when I bought mine for my M5Np and most other notebooks, it's a Socket 479M. So does that mean there are also other barebones which uses the 478 version?

socket 478 is a P4 socket..
socket 479m is a pentium-m socket..
Yes, there are barebones that uses 478..... but they hold a p4 cpu....

What's this? I suppose this won't fit my M5Np...

I think that's wrong, because I've got a 2.0 dothan in my M5..... I want to say they mistyped or something.... because 478 is P4 - 479m is P-M.....
You can fit up to the 2.1ghz dothan in your system if you have the M5np.
Thanks,
Justin

I did a search again, this time on the 1.5Ghz in my M5. Apparently there are two versions.

I guess I have a SL6F6, since it's a 479M. I'm just curious where exactly these 478 PPGA package Pentium Ms are used. But I guess you brought up an interesting point: If the 2.0 fits the M5, that means the 478 package will fit a 479M socket. It looks like Intel only made 478 PPGA 2.0GHz Dothans.
Here's the whole list:

Don't get me wrong... I'm not trying to start an aggressive debate, but I'm just scratching my head...[]

Thats weird...... I can tell you that everything from a 1.3 to a 2.1ghz cpu will all fit in the same socket..... I don't know what the deal is, really. But they certainly didn't make two different cpus, I know that.
Thanks,
Justin
