    Howdy Folks,

Been a while since I've posted here, but I just had a few questions for those familiar with the V6Va.

    1. Fairly often now my V6Va makes a high pitched whinning noise - it comes from around the right palm rest. The noise isn't that loud, in fact I have to stop what I'm doing to make sure I actually hear it, but it's definitely there. I haven't noticed any abnormal behavior otherwise though. Should I be concerned?
    2. What are the best multiplier settings for dynamic-switching mode with NHC? I can never seem to get them right? >:)
    3. My desktop died, so it's going to be replaced soon with a notebook. Well, I'm tired of being burned by Windows all the time, so I'm highly considering a Macbook Pro. If anyone is familiar with both the MBP and V6Va, how does the heat output compare? I've heard complaints about the MBP, but if it's anything like my V6Va, then I won't really worry about that.

    Thanks for your time :)

    1. could be the hard drive.
    2. i wouldn't screw with those (had to answer the question)
    3. If you're looking at a 15" MBP..... honestly, why don't you wait for the V1j... It seems silly to have a V6 and another notebook, but if you need two... I think you'll be upset with the MBP compared to the V6va, but the V1j should statisfy you and compliment the V6va nicely...... the MBP is still a nice system though.

MBP vs V6Va is nothing alike when it comes to heat. On the MBP, we're talking about cooking eggs on it, and actually some guy really did. Run a search on this forum, it was posted about a month ago. Funny stuff. It gets reallly really hot, and for a good reason, poor ventilation, i mean the laptop is 1.1inches thick, the V6Va is 1.5 inches.. Gives it half an inch almost for the air to flow through and cool out..

J can measure, I'm sure.... and if he can get it to measure 1.5" in any stretch of the imagination, I'd love to see it. At it's thickest (and I'm talking including the feet), you're looking at 1.2, but the thickest part of the system itself comes to an inch and if you measured the front of the system from say an inch from the front... we're in the .8 -.85 range.

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, so I'll try to answer it best I can....

Start with the default multipliers that NHC assigns for your processor. Then go to NHC Help, click on FAQ, cpu voltage control, voltage examples; look at More Voltage Reducing in the Sonoma 730 table. For the even multipliers there, you should be able to back the voltages you're using 1 stop down; for the odd ones, pick a voltage that's reasonably in-between - except for your 6x min (0.700) and max (I've got my 13x set at 1.084 to ensure stability; some people can get it down to 1.052 but I don't want to chance it freezing and that works fine). I've been using this setup for several months with absolutely no problems with stability or freezes, but be sure to check anyway.

If you're asking about which of the default multipliers that you want to leave checked to use, I either use my adjusted defaults or change to min/max only to save more battery power by keeping the cpu off of the in-betweens and just going to max when needed.

    Hope this helps.
