Hi,
I'm interested in buying an Asus X50GL-AP042 Laptop, and I was wondering, could anyone tell me if it is worth it?
Specs:
-Processor:Intel Core 2 Duo, T5800, 2000 Mhz, Processor Cache Dimension: 2048
-Video chipset: nVidia GeForce 8200M G, dedicated, 512 mb
-HDD&RAM: 250GB, 3072MB RAM Standard ( 8192 MAX), DDR2, 800 MHz, 5400rpm
View full specs: CLICK HERE
The price is about ~700-800 US Dollars(~600).
I want to know if it's worth it, because I heard many people that say they have Asus notebooks, and they have many problems, such as the monitor going black, and lines apearing, with no reason, and things like that, and I don't want to buy a notebook and have the same problem.
Does anyone have any opinion about it, please?![]()

errm... bumps?
srry for double posting -
I think that one is overpriced bud: http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/ASUS_X50GL_AP008E_Laptop_X50GL-AP008E/version.asp Unless you meant (~300€
...
For 600-700 USD you could get the Asus M51 with the new AMD processor and ATI 3650... the model number is on newegg -
1. Thx for helping, but the price there is actually ~700 USD (
)
2. Is the Radeon HD 3650 good? I mean could it run games such aserm, nfs undercover or some other new games? Because i don't rlly know much about ATI graphics cards, I only had nVidia until now :-??
nfs system req:

edit: unfortunatelly, newegg supports ordering from USA / Canada / China, but i'm from europe, and the transport would cost me ~double the laptop price, and Asus M51, over here is about ~1000-1200 USD(wich i don't have, atm) -
You're kinda overpaying considering that the 8200M is not a very fast video card
-
Yep, I know, but it's one of the best laptops I could find (considering the price/performance ratio), within the price range.
-
How about the Acer's with the 9600m gs?
-
:-? I didn't know Acer had notebooks with 9600. Can you give me a link, please? ( or a model name is good too
)
Edit: I searched ,but I only found one with 8600.

How about building a gaming desktop for $500? -
sounds cool. It's now #1 on the list.
And for the desktop, i already have a configuration made, it's just that my dad, for some reason, doesn't want a desktop , and i don't know how to convince him. He says that I already have one, no reason to buy another, plus he doesn't trust a configuration made by someone he doesn't know, he would prefer it be made by the company i'm buying it from, and things like that. ( -.- , any ideas of how to convince him would be apreciated:laugh: )
Click to view config , but I would like to see other options if you want to suggest something else
BTW: the price isn't translated correctly, it's actually ~600 USD -
If your dad thinks a laptop is a better investment than a laptop show him the benchmarks whereby a $500 desktop outpreforms $1500 laptops with ease... 3x 3d marks, etc... -
1. If I was to upgrade the one I have now, I'd have to change everything, because this PC is, like, about 5 years old and VERY outdated. it would be like buying a new one.
And
2. He knows that a desktop outperforms a laptop, but he says that if he'll buy me a desktop, I wouldn't get out of the house, because I'd stay all day long playing games (not true, though -.- ). Oh, well, looks like I'll have no try harder. No worry, I'll convince him to get me a desktop :d.
Anyways, thanks alot for your help,
P.S.: Do u think that configuration I showed you is worth ~600 USD? -
Check out this great thread at desktop review:

Scroll down to "Budget (Mid-Range) Gamer's Desktop - Around $600 " use that config as a basis.
