Ive had my A8jm for 3 months now, and i keep counting more and more devices that i own that are bluetooth enabled, but i keep resorting to USB cables. Ive asked canadasys/milestonepc a bunch of times, but it seems they are refusing to do it for me.

Reading on Darrick's blog, apparently PortableOne is willing to install the Bluetooth free of charge when the module is in stock.

Anyone PLEASE help me with my dilema? I find it retarded that after spending 2000 cdn on this notebook, i cant get bluetooth for it because it takes time to install.

If you are in the Toronto region, please let me know.

I can understand not wanting to plug in a usb dongle...im the same, infact my lovely ms bluetooth mouse is currently gathering dust cause I miss placed my dongle and cant be bothered to buy a new one.
That said I guess the problem is to do with warranty more than anything else. But maybe if your feeling risky you could try installing it yourself!

Yeah, if you don't mind playing around with hardware, maybe doing it yourself wouldn't be a bad idea. Although, not sure where you can get the internal module from.

ps. P1 probably installs it free only if the machine was bought from them :) But you can ask them ..... shipping will be a pain though going through border etc...

Wow~ to use USB is still a better idea for saving money and your time if you would like to do it yourself. We disassemble this model before, it is really really take much time for assemble a bluetooth module in. It requires to take out a LCD screen, video card, cpu cooler, wireless adapter, front side cover, and so on. Futhermore, even an user bought this model from a retailer, i beleive that the user must pay a service charge because of spending a time for service.
    Cheers

I don't know why you're even remoely TRYING to put the blame on MilestonePC or any of the resellers for that matter. It's not his problem that the North American model of ASUS A8Jm that he received them without an internal bluetooth module. Sure you spent $2000 cash...big whoop so did I. The margins on these laptops are low that even for resellers, don't make much money(I know because I know reseller cost). It's not that MilestonePC is ignoring your request, I mean he posted right in this thread. It's that what you request takes too long for any small retailer to risk the potential sales. Disassembling the notebook could easily take 30 minutes to an hour..not to mention NOTHING is broken and if the technician breaks anything or anything is not working like it was before, then you're going to go ballistic on them even when it was your request for FREE(apparently because you paid $2000 in CASH!).

My thoughts are the same as above. But, I would like to add, if you don't want to use the dongle, and if Bluetooth is so important to you, you should have never considered the A8JM. If you chose it because of the some other feature, then you have to ask, what is more important. At time we can't be greedy.

You can't blame Milestonepc, or the fact it cost you $2000. If you really want to point fingers at someone, its NA Asus, but even calling Asus international probably won't do you any good.

The reason why P1 offers bluetooth is because they disassemble the unit to fit the CPU/GPU with their cooling extras, therefore can put bluetooth in.

i didnt say i wanted it for free, the quote is in indication im willing to spend a little more to see it installed. When the heck did i request for a free BT module? you're reading into it too much.

eh? sorry, no finger pointing intended. reading into it a little too much. And when you say i shouldnt have considered the A8jm because i wanted bluetooth, thats where you're very wrong. the original configuration DID have bluetooth, and i had pre-ordered it then. by the time the no-bt specs were around, i was already too into the notebook to back off the pre-order.

Im not blaming milestonePC, really. When the new configuration was available, it was "we'll look into it, we already have the BT module." Its just that everytime i ask its "too much labour" rather than "we'll do it for this much, plus this much labour." They have great standards, but there's always room for even better service. Notebook sales is an active market, so im sure if they could throw in a favour here or there, even more ppl would go to them. i still recommend going to them for ASUS. that much hasnt changed.

anyway, i just said screw it. everyone seems to be reading into it too much :p

My apologies, I guess I was reading too deep into the issue from the information given. 100% my fault here.

I do see your place, if you preorded I guess you may have / may have not gotten it, sorry didn't know you preordered.
