Consider this a gift from me personally... to you.

I know I've talked about this sweet keyboard I started using with my media centers in the last couple months and I thought up a great gift idea. It'll work with the W2 and is even cooler if you've got your notebook hooked up to a big tv.... It's got a nice design that is meant to be held at the edges and feels really nature sitting on your legs while you're kicked back on the couch watching tv. It's got basically a fully media center remote (on the left and right sides of the keyboard) which are backlit so you could see them in the dark and it also has a nice pointer (similiar to the little red dot joystick on the old laptops) as well as a left and right click button.... It really is ALL-in-ONE. Since Asus has dropping the carrying case and mouse out of the W2v package, on top of lowering the warranty a year, and yet has kept the price the same (they claim rising costs on the screen which is legit), I thought I could entice some of you late adopters who are now all bummed about the lastest developments. So, from now until the 15th, anyone member can claim the "Free Remote Keyboard" as their member discount which is a value of about $100 (only if they are purchasing a W2).

On a side note, Asus has updated their price on this new W2v model... it's now $2,549.00.

Is it really good? I'm thinking of ordering one for my PC I'm hooking to the TV. I heard the pointer on it is not the best.

... The pointer is like those little joystick things the thinkpads had/have... I never cared for them myself, but really all that is used for is navigating outside of media center - on your desktop itself. That's something I rarely do, but I can say that the pointer was stiff at the begining and loosened up quite a bit over a few weeks of use. I would say that it's something you have to get used to because it's not like a touchpad..... and it's not like a mouse or a trackball....

.... one thing I did in the process of designing our new media center is try out a LOT of keyboards, remotes and pointers.... I think on a whole this Microsoft one hits it all on the head........ the backlight for the remote section can be turned on and off.... and the keyboard itself can be locked so you don't use the battery....... it's also rather durable. The Gyration media center combo (keyboard and seperate remote/pointer) is probably my section favorite...... but I don't really flip over the keybord. The remote/pointer are nice - if I was looking for a remote/pointer - that would be ideal...... but there are certainly better remotes like logitech's harmony line.... better wireless keyboards like a bunch by logitech.... but nothing compact and feature rich as the MCE remote keyboard.

... Is it worth $100? I don't know.... but we buy things like this by the tens of dozens and no one seems to mind me taking one to try out.... I guess I am the boss and that's one of the perks though.
