Hi Guys,
I'm mostly wondering if anyone else is experiencing this problem rather than looking for a solution. But if anyone has one then please do share.
When using the line-out port on my G1 I have found that I get a continuous whine and intermittent crackle when I listen at high volume. Adjusting the various Windows volumes has no effect. I'm using a Cambridge Audio amp with a pair of Tannoy monitors. I've tried various inputs, cables and audio sources and it's definitely the laptop that causes these distortions.
I've noticed that when the laptop is working hard (lots of disc activity, heavy cpu load etc) the problem is exarcebated. I have also found it happen in seemingly random situations such as when scrolling down a web page. I'm guessing it's electrical interference inside the laptop due to the tightly packed nature of the unit but would appreciate any other thoughts.
Thanks

Also, I have known static to do this as well. Your problems were happening to me especially during this last winter.
I remove the plug, and restart the computer. That usually helps. But if you think it's something more serious, you may need to reinstall drivers. A lot of speaker interference is also due to not having magnetically shielded speakers. Removing the sources of distortion could help out quite a bit in that case. -
This is a common problem with a number of notebook computers. The best way to overcome this is to buy a USB headset/speakers. I just got myself the Logitech Notebook Premium Headset and Z-10 speakers .. A little pricey, but they sound great !

Oops, pardon the dyslexia. But 'exacerbates' describes exactly what's happening.
Think i'm gonna see if I can lay my hands on a laptop sound card and see what the results are. I'll let you all know.
