I dunno if its my drivers or what exactly my problem is, but when playing certain avis/mpegs, and i try to fast forward my sound cuts out and it doesn't work anymore. I've tried this on many different clips, all with the same result. I've also tried different players (WMP/real) and still the same thing....

Try using Media Player Classic or VideoLan as your video player.
As well, have your audio drivers been updated, and have you installed any codecs yet? -
no, i just installed VLC player, not sure if it comes with its codecs or not. Is there a tutorial for codecs, hell i know more about linux codecs then i do windows codecs
.

i'd recommend xp codec pack from freecodecs.com i originally used matroska pack (another popular codec pack) but i had issues with dvd playback and some sort of error in wmp11. xp codec pack also comes with Code Detective, which is very helpful for tracking down all your codecs that you have knowingly or unknowingly installed.
