I've installed the R170 drivers from Realtek to eliminate the annoying stuttering, static, and skipping in the sound yesterday. It might have taken me a while to notice, since I almost exclusively use the computer with headphones on, but today I realized the speakers don't work.

I panicked, and restored the system. On the startup (flaming Asus eye) I heard sound through the speakers, so I knew this isn't a hardware problem.

I reinstalled the drivers. In absense of the Realtek HD Audio Manager, the problem was the opposite. The speakers all of a suden worked, but the headphones didn't. I tested this with multiple headphones.

I then did the drivers again and the had the Realtek HD Audio Manager put back on. I returned to the initial problem! The speakers weren't working, but the headphones were. I checked the reading in playback devices and there was no difference in it whether headphones were plugged or unplugged.

I come to suspect the problem is with the Realtek HD Audio Manager. If I can gat any insight as to what I should do it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
