So I bought the G50 from best buy a month ago, and everything has been great up until 5 minutes ago. No sound is coming out of my laptop anymore; it's unmuted, the volumes up, I just don't know what is wrong. And when i hook up my laptop to external speakers, it out puts sound, but it's very muffles and there is a lot of static...any ideas?

Now just turn the "sound volume" setting down to 0 in the bios and the start up sound wont make a noise anymore but you will still have full sound in windows.

I went thru the same problem and I was the first :p it took me over a hour to figure it out after uninstalling and installing sound drivers over and over and doing all my super techy trouble shooing before I finally had the light bulb on my head come on and I remembered that I just turned off post sound in bios.

Haha, alrighty, will do. I just found it odd that the sound worked for a good week with the post sound turned off, which is why I was confused, because I hadn't changed anything recently. Maybe I hadn't of actually turned my computer off till this afternoon for anything to take effect? I don't know.

It was instant for me, maybe you just think it was a week? lol.

You may have a different bios too so I guess thats possible. I documented this problem but my threads get lost easy so I just took the initiative and let Ken know from GentechPC about the problem so he can tell the guys working on the G50V bios to fix it, I also put in a request that if its possible to give us louder volume in windows.

Haha, it definitely wasn't instant, but now that i think about it, it wasn't a week, it was two days ago, cause I installed a new hard drive and was in the bios. And my sound was working up until this afternoon, meh. And yah...louder volume in windows would be great...it's kinda sad that I feel the need to hook up my laptop to my speaker system while i'm just crusin in windows.

Depending on what your doing look up a program called DFX 8 it can boost movie volume and things wich is the only "quite" problem I have had.

For Music just raise the EQ in Winamp but all my mp3's are pretty loud I only need half volume.

For youtube.... still working on that one.. I can download the file and do it that way but thats too much work :p

Main problem I had was with videos on the web aka youtube and various other websites. It's a nice system so I hookup my laptop to it when i'm watching actual movies anyways. And my mp3's are unusually quiet for some reason. If i have any ambient noises going on in my apartment, it's hard to hear them, but whatever, it's a minor problem. And while I've got you lookin at my thread, any ideas on why my gpu is getting so hot? I just checked it after about half an hour of CoD4, and it's at 80 degrees...i know for a fact it's never reached that temperature, even after running things like Crysis for a good solid 3 hours straight. Dunno if 80 degree's is "normal" but it's never gotten that high.

80c for a notebook gpu is not bad, thats on the cool side actually :p

If temps are a concern get a cooling pad, also if you want a great sound experience maybe look into some bluetooth headphones like I have.

Alright, just making sure, never seen my temps go up that "high". And bluetooth headphones would be great...too bad Asus and Bestbuy are cheap and decided not to put bluetooth into their version, unless i'm just blind and can't find the setting for it, haha.

hmm the X1 does not have BT? that sucks add another strike against the X1.

Also just keep in mind that CoD4 and Crysis are both very demanding games pushing the gpu to its limits.

Being able to play Crysis on a laptop is a privilege not a right :p

We still need somebody with more freetime than me to find drivers/software for overclocking the video card this 9700GT has to have much more potential. The 8600GT gets very close to our stock score with an overclock but with the cool temps and die process of the 9700GT it can make the same leap and more.

edit: just went to BBs page and do not see bluetooth on the specs, that sucks bluetooth is one of the best things ever for laptops in my opinion. Its the entire reason I have cool headphones, free ringtones & games on my cell phone, and can use a great wireless keyboard/mouse combo with no dongle.

Oh and most important of all :p its the only reason I can use my wiimote controller for gaming on my laptop.

yah, i spent a good 2 hours making sure there wasn't BT, kind of a nip in the butt, ahah. And yes, playing Crysis on a laptop is a huge privilege, no complaints there haha. An i'm just waiting to see what the 9700GT can do...someone will find the will and time to do it soon enough.
