Users have been reporting problems with the A2D and I'd like to clarify the situation, as my machine was actually supposed to be OK...
When using Skype for example, the sound suddenly stops, with a little noise just before this happens. Exiting the program then re-launching it solves the issue.
What do we know about this issue?

re install or upgrade the sound driver. one mounth ago my a2d made the same thing and ý upgrade the latest sound driver and it solves the problem[

I have been experiencing the same problem since I have my laptop (A2D too). Sometimes, it happens with winamp, but it happens more often with Skype: a little noise, and then no sound at all. The fix: relaunch the app causing the problem.
Slayerxp: what is your sound driver version please? -
Slayerxp, where can you upgrade the driver from? The Update Driver button in the device properties using Windows Update doesn't report an updated version of the driver. Did you manually install the newest Realtek AC'97 driver (3.69)?
Now get ready: I called the shop and they did hear about an hardware problem with some A2D notebooks concerning the sound card (the guy is absolutely formal). Worse: the notebook I have been using now over 6 months ago had been sent back for sound problems investigation just before I bought it.
BTW, the problem happens with whatever software using the sound card.

He,
I have an A2D too. And the same prob with the SC. I called Asus about this problem. The response of the mister helping me: The soundcard is 'not the best in the world' (in typical Dutch understatement).
But the problem wasn't solved by a new sounddriver, mine had to go back to the Netherlands for repair for it. (I live in Denmark and can't miss my laptop for one single day!).
Considering selling my Asus and buying a Asus. Cause this baby makes far too much noise.

Bad news Keksi: my notebook had been fixed but the problem simply reappears. Looks like this is yet another major hardware problem.
Don't buy another Asus notebook, it's far too risky.

No AuroraS, I'd volontarily agree with you under normal circumstances, but the situation is slightly more complex. Let me refresh your memory.
We raised the A2D fan problem in July 2004 and at that time most people here including the moderator were saying that I was exaggerating and the problem probably concerned "a few isolated cases"...
Careful attention from forum readers brought to evidence the fact that there REALLY was a problem with the hardware. Today, we ALL know that there is a sound problem too and that there is no known solution.
The A2D notebook also has a LCD stain problem and there are some overheating issues (read this forum carefully and you will see this is more serious than you want to believe).
It also makes an awful lot of noise and is also pretty heavy.
To put it in a nutshell: the A2D has plenty of problems, not just 2 ou 3. It is not exagerated to say it is risky to buy any Asus notebook AuroraS, sorry. The A2D has so many defects that I do consider the whole brand dodgy, yes.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015 -
If you hate ASUS so much and want to tell people to never buy their products then you should also tell them to not buy sony, Apple, HP, IMB, voodoo, and many other notebooks which are produced buy ASUS.
ASUS is a huge company they produce a hell of alot of stuff, to tell people to completely aviod this company is like telling people to avoid buying a computer at all.
Thus I'm gonna agree with AuroraS, it is of no help to anyone to say that EVERY ASUS notebook/product is crap, because a) that aint true and b)Its of no help to those looking for specific advice on specific models.
Yes the A2D is bad, don't buy that model, but in its defence compare it to other machines in its price range that also have similar hardware. Its a low-end budget machine which is packed with powerful components normally reserved for high end DTRs. Yet its one of the cheepest notebooks around, it would be foolish to think that there isn't a catch somewhere, and ASUS cut a few to many corners in trying to deliver a v.cheap but powerful computer. This model won't be upgraded by ASUS thus they no they made a lemon, and hopefully they have learnt from there mistake.
Anyway thats the end of my rant.
You can hate ASUS as much as you like, it just doesn't help anyone else in this forum, which is what this place is ment to be, a helpcenter.

p.s you seem pretty good with computers, and hate the A2D but seem to be stuck with it, so why not flip it around and become the guru on fixing this doggy bugger so that others can survive with it long enough till they can upgrade...instead of just saying it sucks all the time???

I must say I'm quite happy with my A2D. It got wifi, a decent cpu (athlon xp-m 2800+), decent amount of ram (512), a good graphic card (ati 9600), and can handle most recent games (not on full details, but still, it's a notebook). I hardly notice the noisy fan, except when I'm watching a dvd, and even then, it's only because it's simply noisy, not because it gets stuck at 3000rpm (the problem escape raised with the fan doesn't occur so often, only 1-2 times a month at max).
Come on Escape, for the price you got it, it's not as bad as you want us to think it is... -
Now there's a realistic customer.
Good for you Yoram... at least someone's content.

Excuse me, but I must say that I'm another very disappointed Asus buyer. If I had some another model than A2D, I might be more happier with Asus notebook.
As you mentioned on this discussion, ASUS is huge company.
That is one reason to expect superb products on all price ranges. But they're not. You'd think that big company like Asus knows how to make good computers and how to deal with supporting their products.
All these things have gone badly wrong with this A2D. That really doesn't encourage to buy another Asus notebook. This is my first and last notebook which has Asus badge on it. -
I work on this computer, guys. Do you?
I'm really fed up when an important Skype conversation is cut when I call Europe.
I'm fed up having to reduce the Mhz just because the fan doesn't turn off with dynamic switching - using Visual Studio all nearly day, which is pretty heavy on resources.
Underpantman I tried investigating the problem from a software point of view but there is nothing much I can do, especially if I don't know the type of fan control chip used. I won't open the notebook and void the warranty.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015 -
I work with A2D too. I've trained myself not to notice fan issue
Generic realtek driver solved issue with sound, only problem was that sound went from 5.1 to stereo (I'm not using 5.1 anyway).
Since I did this 5-6 months ago, I don't remember exact url.
It shouldn't be too hard to find these drivers.
Sound suddenly stops on A2D
